Assume it shows the correct day in an exported statement?
My type of night out.
I got 9p - plus £16.74 cashback. So I still consider that a win for zero cost.
I just put literally anything I could through it, seems to have worked out.
According to one of their other posts on Reddit they are a “private investor and a full time trader for a living” - they always leave something out. I wonder if this is enough to trigger it as a business and maybe against the rules for a personal current account?
(I actually have no idea, it’s just a guess)
They’ll figure it out quickly then
You mean someone has posted a “they’ve shut my account for no reason” thread and only given half the details?! This has never happened before.
£20 cashback and 2p round-ups interest here.
I’ve recently moved house so been spending lots on furnishings etc, that 1% cashback already coming in handy (way more than Amex has ever done!)
…or just lied when they wrote the “for no reason” bit.
I suspect it might have something to do with the bit that they admit further down about them using the account ‘for buying takeaways and taxis in Kyrgyzstan’.
That’s not exactly a tourist hotspot. I suspect Chase assumed, not too unreasonably, that that was someone who wasn’t actually a UK resident.
The Chase app for iOS has been updated today, you can now add your card to other devices, i.e. iPad or Apple Watch. When adding your card, they will ask to verify via the app or your contact number.
Had a positive experience with them regarding initiating a charge back. They told me they would have to wait for the transaction to settle and then they would do it without my input. Talked to them on Thursday, Saturday morning got a message that they processed the refund and wished me a nice weekend.
I don’t expect this to be this smooth in the future though…
Interesting/weird observation today.
A few days back I bought some t-shirts from an online shop, each t-shirt was £6.30 each with a discount applied. Total order/invoice came to £37.80.
This £37.80 transaction was displayed in the “pending” state for about 3-4 days.
Today that transaction disappeared and was replaced by 6x £6.30 separate transactions, which caused the round ups feature to apply to each transaction - so my round-ups account got topped up with 6x 70p lots (£4.20)
I’m not sure whether that’s some quirk with the retailer, or Chase (probably the retailer)
I’ve had this with British Airways too. Booked two tickets and initial charge was one cost for both tickets.
Few days later this changed to two charges for each ticket. Couldn’t work out why!
Sometimes with BA (& other airlines) it’s because they process the tickets in a way which provides extra information via MasterCard including the passenger name, flight details including seat, departure and destination airports.
I mean you’re not supposed to keep the cashback so surely you should look more positively as “oh Chase didn’t take cashback off me from a refund - brill”.
There’ll be some backend reason. It might be that there wasn’t a link between the second refund and an outgoing transaction, so they just see it as income rather than replacing an outgoing transaction.
When I’ve used Klarna, the initial payment after the first purchase doesn’t give me cashback, but the monthly payments do subsequently.
Sounds like Chase have a promotion on Heart Breakfast radio next week. That can’t be cheap, but probably a good way of raising awareness among the public.
