Hey all

I left Monzo a few months back so am just a part of the community now
Today is exactly a year since I came up with this idea, and an amazing team worked in both their monthly monzo times as well as their spare time to build an MVP of this. I just wanted to drop in to say that it’d be amazing if this got seen through to the end

Imagine if 2+ million people were encouraged to round up their spare pennies for just a day - that could end up being millions of pounds raised for charity by such a simple feature. That was the original thinking behind it a year ago, and I still think it could be a really powerful force for good.
I was a bit worried it had been abandoned but sounds like a team has picked this up!

Charity Pots are making good progress. I’m limited in how much I can share on this particular topic right now but the good news is that most of the actual production work is done

So, now - agreements, reviews, launch date, marketing plans, comms, testing is where we are at! More news to come soon hopefully.

Great, this is awesome to hear! Would it allow you to give to a selected list of charities, or can you select your own like you can on www.getsparechange.com ? I would love to give locally to the charity I volunteer with in Hertfordshire

Hi Monzo, any news on the give to charity option? This is because a lot of holy and religious months (e.g Ramadan) are coming up and would be cool if it’s possible to do so in the app?

Charity Pots

Inspired by a tweet from Stevie Buckley (https://twitter.com/StevieBuckley/status/971724116310089729), I came up with the idea of “Charity Pots” - Pots that automatically donate their contents to a selected charity each month. I’ve made some assumptions, which I’ll outline in a moment, and put together a quick prototype in Sketch to show how I think it comes together. Assumptions Monzo customers would like to have a pot that automatically donates its contents to a charity of their choice each…

Quite a bit of work was done towards the end of last year, but as a company we took a strategic decision to try and work on less things in tandem and have more people working on a fewer things so that we could really focus. Because of that, some of the work we still have left to do on this area got postponed so that we can get the new Monzo Plus plans over the finish line.

This is still happening, but it likely won’t get completed until after Plus has launched when we have the capacity to complete.

As I’m sure you can imagine there is a lot riding on Plus so it’s critically important that we focus on that. But given how much work was already done on this, it shouldn’t take long to complete once we have the capacity available

I wonder who is in charge of this & could update us? Is it back in the “to do” pile now Plus is live?
