Erm why aren’t we talking about how tiny the cashback values are on places where the transaction value tends to be quite low?
I wouldn’t get out of bed for 3p off each £1 at Starbucks.
The odd 2/3% off here and there would be ok if it were more widespread, also 3% off at a hotel or restaurant chain is very different to 3% off at Starbucks.
Dear Monzo, can we please have the Amazon cashback offer back now that Amazon released the new Kindle line? Thanks
Just had a quick look - defo can’t buy an Amazon Kindle at Monica Vinader.
Very annoying that my Spotify and Netflix payment dates are after this cash back expires.
Not sure how long the offer has been around for but it’s super annoying that the system can’t just auto apply the cash back.
Yeah - that’s new. And worded as it is (for now) only Monzo will look at D/D’s to fathom out what offers will be more personalised.
I keep forgetting to check mine
Aldi, Sainsburys, Greggs and Boots have all joined the list
exactly - that’s the whole point of a cashback offer. to get you spending money somewhere you usually wouldn’t.
That’s the theory but I shop at Sainsbury’s and I’ve had a few good offers. Current one (5% off 100 pounds minimum spend) isn’t the best but it’s literally free money.
Monica Vinader on the other hand…
Be nice if they could keep LNER on here, I’m building a nice pot of cash back.
Some cashback offers are from retailers we use maybe once a year. Can these be improved in the UK? Aldi is a good one for example
Yes but majority are not applicable to me. I don’t want to join Vodafone, I don’t want to hire a car or shop at Flannels, or need to book with Virgin Atlantic
Thats not how it works. Cashback is to attract new cistomers, not to give money away to existing ones.
But if it more relevant to my spending habits, locations. I’ve never spent on trains or hired cars before so what thinks this is where il spend my money as a new customer. Surely an algorithm on my spending habits should be used. I spend £100 per month at McDonalds hypothetically speaking then surely Burger King and other Fast Foods chains I’ve never spent should be popping up
It would. But Burger King might not be signed up.
There will be many reasons you have different retailers. One might say we want anyone who has ever spent with us, we know average spend is £2.50 so want minimum £5 spend. Some might want to exclude existing customers. Some might want to target a rival. All of these things cost different amounts of money.
Monzo are not choosing who it is. The cashback partner are not choosing. The businesses themselves choose who they target based on data, not who you’d like a discount from.
I regularly spend at Morrisons and Sainsbury’s and both my partner and I have offers for these.
I’m gonna stop guessing how it works and start taking the goodies. Might even start shopping at Monica Vinader.
Lol, that might be a gamble worth taking.
I reckon I would save more than 7% if I just went to Elisabeth Duke instead!
I honestly don’t believe it’s “here’s some offers we want you to try shopping at/entice you in”
More “we have this merchant who’s paying us to promote their cashback, take it or leave it, but it’s going in your list”.
Looking at you Monica Vinader.
