AWS/Cloudflare Outage - 20th Oct. 2025

AWS US East is down, affecting a ton of services, including some UK banks. Outages have been reported at LBG and Barclays.

Are your banking apps working today?

Only Lloyds not working as far as I know for me.

MBNA (part of Lloyds) not working.

Monzo/Revolut and NatWest for me appear fine.

Yep, looks like just BoS/Halifax not opening for me.

I do wonder why bother having a service status page if you’re not going to update it, though.

Not banking but my Peloton is down :sob:

Santander seems fine.

Slack is the service giving me the most pain this morning. Amazing how quickly it’s become a critical communication tool.

It’s certainly running slowly!

Lloyds seems back up.

This is the downside to sticking everything into the cloud.

Ring seems to be down! I’ve never been too bothered by privacy concerns of using a cloud service for security cameras, but hadn’t previously considered the possibility of Ring servers going down completely!

Never mind Ring… Rocket League was down :scream:

One of the reasons we changed to Tapo devices. Might not be as polished as Ring but storage is local and not impacted by the cloud

Well I wasn’t trying to use Seatfrog today but I guess they’re on AWS too!

There’s a list here:

I think Reddit can be added to this.

Edit: No it can’t.

Can you add multiple user accounts to the system, each with independent control over their app notification settings? This multiple account feature is one of the key things I liked about Ring when compared to other systems I was considering when I bought it (however I did that comparison of options over 6 years ago now).

I also have Ring alarm system and from what I can tell Tapo alarm system looks a bit weak in comparison (no mobile backup option and no outdoor siren).

Very glad I prioritised local access for nearly all my smart home stuff.

I went with reolink for my doorbell cam, connected to home assistant.

Oddly, Reddit started having issues right when AWS said we have started mitigating the issue.

My NatWest current account and credit card push notifications for this morning were delayed until lunchtime when they all came through at once. That’s never happened to me before so may be connected. Perhaps they are using AWS Compute for their app servers.

Yes you can add multiple accounts in a similar way to how it works with Ring like I say not as polished but it works very well.

My boss is also a Tapo advocate and he has doorbell, multiple cameras both inside and out but also has a separate hardwired alarm system

We only have the doorbell and some outdoor solar powered cameras. We have a separate Pyronix Alarm system which is hardwired

So basically unless you were (un)lucky enough to be with Lloyds bank apps worked well then. Thankfully it was the wrong flavour for work to be too affected otherwise I might’ve had a very different day.

The old sysadmin adage:

Friends don’t let friends host their services on US-EAST-1

I think it’s a bit nuts UK banks and services hosted on there given its history.
