Are you ready for an electric car?

Two days to go then
Which colour did you go for ?

Relief is on the way for flat dwellers all over the country.

An “electric avenue” has been developed where lampposts have been converted into chargers for battery-powered cars.

In what is thought to be the first of its kind, a street in the capital has been transformed into a hub for the vehicles to promote their use in residential areas. Twenty-four lampposts over a half-mile stretch of Sutherland Avenue in Maida Vale, northwest London, have been converted to contain chargepoints, allowing residents without driveways to power up electric vehicles overnight.

Whilst that would be a great solution for people who don’t have off street parking. It begs the question, unless locked into position, how many of these will be stolen for a laugh, to sell on etc ?

I was going to say the same. A big roll of cable left like that is asking to be vandalised / stolen - not from me of course but it absolutely would in a lot of areas especially at night.

The charge cables lock in to both the charge point and the car on all the public stations I’ve used so whilst they could be cut or vandalised (at great risk to the person doing it) they cannot easily be stolen.

That won’t make a blind bit of difference. I can see people playing tug of war with them or kicking the charger out of either the car or the lamppost to name a few. How long before the charge points themselves get vandalised and things shoved in them like bunsen burners used to at school.

Mindless idiots like this don’t have any brain cells, so safety won’t even factor into their decision making process.

I guess you could say this about anything? They also could go around kicking wing mirrors off cars and shoving potatoes up exhaust pipes (and some do) but that doesn’t mean we should remove wing mirrors or cars entirely…

Next week but I have time to get a dashcam and a few other things sorted.

I went for Arctic White

Oh yeah of course, I was just saying it’s a concern especially as it’s something new

We should all be driving "Honda e"s.

No wing mirrors or exhaust pipe to worry about. :joy:

In all the years I have been plugging in my cars I have never had a concern, perhaps I should have, using similar equipment to the scheme described above.

That does look like a nice area to be honest. I was thinking about when it gets a much wider rollout to more deprived areas with higher crime ratings.

I had a quick Google and there are people breaking the cables, last year someone stuffed creme eggs into some in London and theres plenty of vandalism to the stations themselves.

I understand that this will happen to anything and everything but it’s still a valid concern.

I understand the point. Charging companies in concert with the local authorities will surely risk assess proposed locations.
My car, above, is covered by CCTV and I can imagine that other locations are or will be similarly protected.

It looks like Milton Keynes to me.

I don’t think the charging cables are the cheapest to replace either… :moneybag: :moneybag::moneybag::moneybag:

It’s been a long time coming but I finally have my beauty.

Dealer delivered it on Tuesday - had to keep 2 meters apart, he had gloves on and everything was sanitised but I’m just glad I managed to get it!

Excellent :+1:

Now sadly you may have to make do by just looking at it and reading the manual.
