The charge cables lock in to both the charge point and the car on all the public stations I’ve used so whilst they could be cut or vandalised (at great risk to the person doing it) they cannot easily be stolen.
That won’t make a blind bit of difference. I can see people playing tug of war with them or kicking the charger out of either the car or the lamppost to name a few. How long before the charge points themselves get vandalised and things shoved in them like bunsen burners used to at school.
Mindless idiots like this don’t have any brain cells, so safety won’t even factor into their decision making process.
I guess you could say this about anything? They also could go around kicking wing mirrors off cars and shoving potatoes up exhaust pipes (and some do) but that doesn’t mean we should remove wing mirrors or cars entirely…
Next week but I have time to get a dashcam and a few other things sorted.
I went for Arctic White
Oh yeah of course, I was just saying it’s a concern especially as it’s something new
We should all be driving "Honda e"s.
No wing mirrors or exhaust pipe to worry about.
See, solve two problems! Get a cable issue…
Progess!

In all the years I have been plugging in my cars I have never had a concern, perhaps I should have, using similar equipment to the scheme described above.
That does look like a nice area to be honest. I was thinking about when it gets a much wider rollout to more deprived areas with higher crime ratings.
I had a quick Google and there are people breaking the cables, last year someone stuffed creme eggs into some in London and theres plenty of vandalism to the stations themselves.
I understand that this will happen to anything and everything but it’s still a valid concern.
I understand the point. Charging companies in concert with the local authorities will surely risk assess proposed locations.
My car, above, is covered by CCTV and I can imagine that other locations are or will be similarly protected.

It looks like Milton Keynes to me.
@phildawson
Surely not, complete absence of either roundabouts or the fabled cows
I don’t think the charging cables are the cheapest to replace either…
It’s been a long time coming but I finally have my beauty.
Dealer delivered it on Tuesday - had to keep 2 meters apart, he had gloves on and everything was sanitised but I’m just glad I managed to get it!

Excellent
Now sadly you may have to make do by just looking at it and reading the manual.
Could always offer to do shopping for neighbours that are in isolation

Yeah for the time being it’s going to be sitting and I think I’ve just about read every page in the manual haha.

Great idea, free shopping deliveries from leafy
Probably needs a new thread…
Are you ready for a hydrogen car?
Anyway just spotted BMW (and Toyota) working on a hydrogen X5 to debut in 2022. Guessing it might be closer to 2027 when you can order one…
Quite interesting to see the layout, going with dual tanks to take 6kg total and 3-4 minutes refuel.
By then we might actually have a nice second gen Hyundai Nexo and maybe more than five places to fill up…
