Apple in Fintech (Apple Card, Open Banking etc…)

So will they still offer the card or is that ending aswell?

I would assume they will partner with someone else, but I don’t really know.

Payments are going to be a feature of our lives for the foreseeable future, so Apple will want to be a part of it. I presume therefore that they’re working hard to find a new partner? That said, partners aren’t going to be overly excited if the service is still loss making, especially when the long term upside (entering the payments market) seems to benefit Apple, not the partner.

Apple will acquire a bank, or something, for it - or potentially partner with a financial institute with more global reach - like Stripe I’d guess. :eyes:

Not a bad guess, I’m not sure any other bank will want to partner with them, if Goldman ‘Deep pockets’ Sachs has decided it’s not for them. Only Chase maybe or HSBC over here would likely have deep enough pockets to take on that risk. But unless there’s a significant benefit to them, why would they.

Apple normally used a company outside to start with then takes it in-house, so maybe that’s what Apple is planning.

GS are exiting the consumer market so it’s nothing to do with Apple.

I’d say the Apple Card was a large factor behind the wider decision, given how pubic they both were about it on launch, and now public for the opposite reasons.

I’m still firmly in the “not leaving the US” category for Apple Card.

It would make sense for Apple to partner with Chase, imo. they’re in the UK and USA

My take is that they’re working on bringing it in house. Apple has already developed its own payment processing system. Apple hates having to rely on anyone but itself.

Right now this is merely a rumour, nothing has been confirmed. If we are to believe the WSJ, the terms haven’t even been agreed and it could be another 2 years before the partnership comes to an end.

I also agree that we are a very long way off this expanding outside of the US.

The rumours say 12-15 months, so I imagine it’ll be by start of 2025.

Probably. It sounds like an Apple or mutual decision, and they’ve been working to bring the whole thing in house for years now, so that’s probably the time scale we’re on for that happening.

Chase UK would make sense if it ever came to the UK. Would be hilarious if you had to have a Chase UK account to open the Apple Card though.

This is why, despite not being a particular fan of Chase, I’ve never closed my account! I’d be prepared to pay a certain amount in each month for an Apple Card

The partner bank will 100% be a silent partner. No chance Apple would agree to something like that.

Also, Santa hats are inadequate. You need to transform into a moustachioed orb

I’m so confused for two reasons with these Santa icons:

  1. Why?
  2. How are you all getting them?

For the glory of Satan Santa!

Real answer: Revels got one last year during the AI profile pic craze. Recently N26 got one because someone (Revels?) complained about the blue circle avatars being confusing. Then I kept getting confused between Revels and N26 so got one myself and it’s all downhill from there.
