App Evolution (new look Monzo app): Feedback Megathread šŸ“£

I’m using Dark Mode (Android) and haven’t experienced this yet.

But there’s mention of a ā€˜backgrounds’ feature in the recent versions of the app code - I wonder if it’s starting?

Also - the selection for the app theme (Light/Dark/System) has vanished from Settings…
(It’s still available via ā€˜Home → Customise → Theme’)

Is there any way you can share what this issue looks like without sharing any personal information? I know it’s difficult on Home, but even seeing what a corner with no content looks like would be helpful.

Sometimes it happens when I load into the app and sometimes when I close the app or go to my business account.

So sometimes when you open the app it is momentarily a plain background then switches to the gradient?

Also, what version are you on?

No it goes from gradient to plain. Gradient doesn’t look nice lol

In case it helps, I just got the same thing when switching back from my business account to my personal one. Also noticed a new salary sorter widget had appeared in my feed at the same time - I’d just made a payment from my business to my joint account.

I’m on Testflight version 5.70.0

Honestly, I’m not a fan of the new accounts detail page. The reason is - it’s pointless. All it has on it is the account card component, and an expanded view of the last 10 days transactions (not infinitely scrolling!) all of which are duplicates from the main overview page - where it’s one less tap to get to these places.

Also, the red/amber/green left to spend indicator is seemingly completely gone. This was one of my favourite bits of the Monzo app - as it was extremely glancable, it’s a lot easier to see ā€œoh my balance is a bit under where it should be this part of the monthā€, than, have to do the maths on the raw numbers the new accounts overview page.

Ideally I’d like to have the new account details page look more like the old one where you can flick between the two feed/manage tabs, and actions you’re likely to perform are surfaced much more.

There’s also an issue when you copy and paste your account details in the current version too

I used to use the old Summary extensively. The workflow was the following:
I’d pay the bills from my main account. The Summary would tell me the actual amount of money I have after I pay all the bills.

I tried my best to adapt to the new UI by setting up a pot to pay all the bills. The pot would calculate exactly how much money it needs to pay the bills, I’d transfer the necessary amount at the start of every month. The balance on my card would then show almost the correct number.

The issue is that the pot uses the old summary to calculate this amount. My salary comes on a different day every month and I need to change the summary date frequently, to budget everything right after I received my salary and not to wait until say the 31st.

The latest change to the app breaks this workflow.

I discovered the pie chart button that I need to click to update the Summary period. As I try change the date however, nothing happens. The Summary still shows the old dates, so as the pot that I’ve set up.

TLDR, steps to reproduce:

  • Set up a pot to pay direct debits and standing orders
  • Click on the primary card
  • Click on the pie chart in the header
  • Try to change the Summary date
  • Go back to the pot
  • Observe that the pot still shows the old dates

Thanks for flagging this one. I don’t seem to be able to reproduce your issue - following the steps you describe does change the date on my bills pot

Is the ā€˜sort salary’ button in the activity feed new? I think it looks great and highlights a helpful feature, which I often forget about.

Just spotted that myself.

I used that this morning. Looks nice.

However, I transferred money to my joint account and then salary sorted that money too but the button didn’t show with that payment.

Not seen it before. Will find out at 4pm today if I have it, and whether it appears for both personal and joint.
