All Things Credit (Cards, Limits, Scores)

Yeah, I think that would be right. I am on that amount at the moment and they don’t allow more increases.

Does anyone know how to differentiate “hard” vs., “soft” credit searches on an Experian statutory credit report, if at all?

It may say quote or ID check somewhere on it, those are soft checks.

I’ve never seen one though so wouldn’t know tbh.

Potentially something like this…

Previous searches show the names of organisations that have seen or used some or all of the information recorded on your credit report within the past 12 months. Searches of your credit report should all have been made with your consent. Most will relate to credit applications you have made but some may be routine checks by your lenders on accounts you already have. Quotation searches (including those made via price comparison websites), unrecorded enquiries, identity verification checks and credit report applications are shown your copy of your report but are not seen by lenders and are not taken into account when making credit decisions.

I imagine anything that looks like the following Application Types will all be Soft Checks:

  1. QUOTATION...
  2. IDENTIFICATION...
  3. CREDIT REPORT
  4. UNRECORDED ENQUIRIES...

Thanks all, glad I’m not missing something obvious that distinguishes searches on the statutory report!

Barclaycard Avios Plus would be the choice. Alternatively, if not wanting to pay a fee, there’s a free version too but higher annual spend required for the reward voucher.

Yeah the black card looks nicer for sure. Just to add the Barclaycard Rewards is also a great card to use as a backup/travel card. 0.25% cashback + 0 fx fees and also for cash withdrawals too abroad.

Credit limits are below:

  • Coutts Charge - No Limit
  • Amex Centurion - No Limit
  • HSBC Premier Credit - Just over £35K
  • Coutts Debit - Whatever balance is in my account
  • Arbuthnot Charge - No Limit

I used to hold a Handelsbanken charge card. That did have a preset limit which was £55K

I think she’d be on-board when you mention no limit credit cards.

I am proud to say I am happily with someone.

With the very person I met when we were young and before we had any money.

When my first credit limit was £700.

Amex 12k
Barclaycard 5k
Monzo Flex 3k
NatWest 2k (wife is additional cardholder and is only used for groceries so kept it low).

I have just been approved for Amex so I expect my total to dramatically increase :joy:

No idea what limit I have been given. Guess that will come when I get my card.

Feel like I am at the limit of the number of account I want. I have current accounts with Santander, First Direct and HSBC. Really don’t need anymore banking apps :joy:

It’ll be on the letter yeah. Don’t think there’s any way to see it before that.

They’re just what’s offered by the Banks that I use.

Coutts offer a credit card, but I had the charge card first so I don’t see the benefit of changing to a different product.

You’re better with a higher limit on this as otherwise your usage on that card, if it’s anything like ours, would be way over 50%.
