When will Monzo break even?

Whose? Where is this coming from? I think I’ve lost the plot of this thread :frowning:

I don’t think Monzo will hit £10-20 Billion before it floats - more like £4-5 Billion.

I think Tom Bloomfield said he would be disappointed with an exit or float at less than £3Billion

So £4-£5 billion would be a good ball park for IPO if they are breaking even or well on the way to profitability

As a benchmark Lloyds has 30 million customers (including the more profitable business customers) and is currently valued at £43 billion

We have a lot of work to do before that happens and this year is really pivotal for us in terms of revenue so it’s not the right time to be asking this question.

However, there are three things that we are focusing on in 2020 that, if successful, will make huge strides for us in terms of generating more revenue as we march towards profitability.

Those three things are:

  • The relaunch of a paid-for offering. You’ll be hearing about this very soon in great detail. The wheels are turning incredibly quickly on this and we’re very happy with the progress.

  • Expansion of Business Accounts. Our early trial of this is looking hugely positive. At some point soon, we’ll begin scaling up availability. Keep an eye out for more news on this.

  • Increasing our lending book. This means offering overdrafts and loans to more people. We believe that we offer competitive offerings here with world-class UX, and we’re keen to make both more widely available.

If all of these things see a decent measure of success in 2020 and we’re able to keep our costs under control to a reasonable degree, we’ll be in a much better place. Until that happens, there is really very little value in trying to predict a “when”.
