Hey hi, an actual real live American here! 
the #1 one thing that I want that i want to see from monzo right now (that most traditional banks already have) is… the ability to create and deposit cheques for free
it baffles me that america still continues to use a very insecure method of paying people (cheque theft is big deal around here), but it’s still the way of life unfortunately:
- when i went to the pennsylvania department of transportation to change my gender earlier this year, they only accepted cheques or money orders
- most government jobs and lower-paying jobs (incl a food place i worked at), won’t don’t do direct deposit. you are literally handed a physical paycheque on payday
- my last landlord only accepts cheques or cash in the mail for rent payment
right now, if someone hands me a cheque, i either have to swallow a $5-20 fee to cash it, or i could take a bus 90 minutes out of my way to a k-mart that will cash my cheque for free. nope, not ideal at all.
