Unauthorised Payments online (TikTok/Pixfizz etc)

OTOH at the office we fairly commonly have people sending their entire card details via email… we then have to find not just the email but all the internal customer support tracking and delete it, then send them a stock reply saying they should change their card number with their bank.

Seems to be americans that do that mostly.

On a more ontopic note Tesco contacted me out of the blue and said they’re revoking my card and sending a new one early, presumably because they’ve flagged something they don’t like (no idea if tiktok related, it never showed on my transactions)… I like that kind of proactive measure even if it means I won’t be able to use their app for a few days.

I reported fraud on my account over 24 hours ago and have still not been contacted.
It seems to be a big issue with Monzo accounts getting defrauded in the same way.

The banner with the tick gives you all the info you need.

If you freeze the card does Google Wallet still work?

Not until you unfreeze it again, it’ll show as disabled in the wallet.

Had same problem here - please let me know if you have any luck with Monzo and refunding the money

I have just had the same security breach/fraudulent payment made to Tik Tok. I have never had TikTok and £213 was taken from my account with no payment approval asked from me - security issue with Monzo and I expect them to sort this ASAP and refund me the full amount (as any normal bank would does for me)

I have just had exactly the same fraudulent payment made to Tik Tok. I’ve never used Tik Tok and there was no active card check the first time round and £213 was taken from my account.
I expect Monzo to sort this and reimburse me for lack of security.

I have just had the same problem. £213 taken from my Monzo account with a TikTok payment. I’ve never used TikTok or had a TikTok account. I am hoping Monzo will be investigating this and I will be able to get my money back.
Have you had any feedback from Monzo?

Everyone who has provided end-of-case feedback has said they’ve got their money back.

You don’t need to keep repeating yourself.

If you legitimately didn’t spend the money you’ll be fine. You’ve just got to be patient and wait for Monzo to conclude their investigation and then they’ll be in touch.

This topic is full of other peoples experiences that are similar to yours. Have a read and I’m sure it will address all of your concerns

Just a thought - could it be a rogue merchant who’s named themselves ‘TIKTOK’ on their merchant account application form, and not in fact a charge by the well-known TikTok?

I’m not sure if banks/payment acquirers would allow someone to use another company’s name, but you never know.

If it was that easy they’d have just banned the merchant, but it keeps happening.

It’s tiktok itself with the issue… good luck getting a large chinese company to listen.

Yeah we got the money back within 5 days. We just froze our accounts and got new cards. You should get the cash back. I think it must be a bot or something. Exact same amounts ect.

5 days?! That’s a very very long time for this type of fraud! I’ve been victim of fraud a couple of times with different banks, and in both cases I had my money back before I could hang up the phone.

You can’t speak to the fraud team. You have to just report it and wait. It did seem like a long time to sort out something so minor.

In all fairness, and I’m not defending Monzo per se this is common for a lot of banks.

That said, I know that if this had happened to me I’d want more than a chat that might get responded to in a few hours

EDIT: apparently it’s actually not common for a lot of banks

Yeah, fraud needs more than this. Or, in the case of ongoing known issues like this, immediate refunds.

Except it really isn’t. With most banks you can (and are expected to) speak to the fraud team, and virtually every high street bank would refund you on the spot.

This is very true. Most high street banks give you the money while they Investigate the fraud, on the warning that if you’re found at fault they’ll take it back.
