I don’t want an account that much!
Thanks for that. Question:
If I have an account but don’t have any direct debits but go through CASS - will it close the account even though there is nothing to move over?
I ask because to close an account, e.g. Barclays I need to write to them or go into a branch - would be great if I just used CASS and it closed automatically.
Yes. It’s an easy way to close an account, even with no DDs. Any future credits you may receive that you’ve forgotten about will be auto–forwarded too, which is a good bonus.
Who are these 20k people who opened accounts? The last thing I’d want to do is open an account with a bank whose IT system is broken!
Aren’t they the scammers stealing people’s money though phishing scams
Yes I did seem rather bizarre for that to go unexplained in the story
People hoping it would go wrong again so they could claim compensation? Or am I being cynical
Like I said, people looking to stash £1,500 away for a year or so. If you don’t need to use it like a current account, then the IT being a problem is low risk.
That was the attraction for me. If there was low friction to opening (i.e. online) then I’d have one by now.
Yup, I was considering it just before the big meltdown… thankfully (this time) I pondered for too long…
Awkward error message from TSB’s banking app:
I’m surprised anyone still banks with them, given all the IT issues they’ve had in recent years. Must be kind of embarrassing that things are still going wrong for them.
Maybe an unhappy colleague ![]()
Something wrong with the TSB Jedis too by the looks of it.

Me too, which is a shame cos I actually like the UI of the app, it’s not the worst…
But after the whole issues (which for me were life impacting cos I was locked out for five days, in the middle of moving into rented accommodation etc) I wouldn’t touch them with a 10ft clown pole…
Does anyone have any updates on what TSB are like at this point?
I’m thinking of switching for the offer, the app looks decent now with notifications, card controls etc. Is it still an unreliable mess?
TSB is absolutely fine, if you’re talking about resilience and IT. Some of their processes are a bit outdated, but nothing you won’t find at most other banks.
But with switching, it’s always better to use secondary accounts, rather than switch over your main account, unless the intention is to find a permanent different main bank account.
There isn’t notifications for spending, only fraud or chat I believe?
The app is ok. Does what it needs to albeit clunky and slow.
Font is probably the biggest annoyance for me ![]()
My main is TSB, never had any issues at all. The way the app is laid out works well for me, easy to navigate etc. apparently push notifications are coming soon for money in/out.
