Transfer ‘gambling block’ principle to other companies

I would love (and really NEED) to be able to block myself from spending on takeaway companies (e.g. UberEats, JustEat, Deliveroo). I’ve deleted these apps from my iPhone and reinstalled them several times. I have notes stuck up to remind and motivate me. It feels like a really bad habit that has gone way out of control.

It would be SUPER amazing if I could use the gambling block principle to give me that 48 hr buffer. It could even be great to control compulsive spending in other areas- clothes, Amazon (no… that’s too far? :flushed:)!! PLEASE! It would be great and really help me to control my spending more :crossed_fingers:t3::crossed_fingers:t3:

Hi. Welcome.

This was suggested again recently, sadly it’s not quite as easy as it sounds due to the way merchants present themselves.

This book worked wonders for me in so far as once I understood how to indentify triggers I was able to make changes.

I’ve often thought it would be great to transfer to gambling block to other retailers but in the absence of that, this might go someway to helping.

If you have an iPhone, perhaps Screen Time could block the apps?

Just have the companies block delivery to your address. Easiest solution.

I do use screen block- for social media but I’ve got into the habit of ignoring the blocks now :woman_facepalming:t2: I’ll try and reinforce that though thank you

Ooo that’s an interesting way to manage it I hadn’t thought about that as an option thank you

This made me laugh and relate more than I should :scream::rofl: thanks for sharing!

Hmm that’s a shame, but not completely surprising. I’ve added the IFTTT £5 takeaway tax for now, and am banning myself from takeaway for January- wish me luck! But then I wonder if the IFTTT is able to identify the merchant couldn’t this also be used for a spending block.

IFTTT isn’t in any way affiliated with Monzo and third parties can’t get involved in the authorisation process so sadly not

I really need a Deliveroo block.

A block that will help with my new year’s resolution would be nice: I will not buy anything off Instagram ads.

So just have them block your address. Then it will apply to ALL payment methods and not just one card.
