The joy of socks

My dad has been relearning morse code and mentioned it a few times. I didn’t think of it but your comment made me have a look.

I know it has been a long time, but lets talk socks Autumn '23.

During the summer I live in Balega Hidden Comfort - which I adore. They are incredibly comfortable, like my foot is getting a hug all day but without getting sweaty. They wash well and last for years. They don’t really do normal length socks.

But for autumn and winter this year I have decided I want something better than generic cheap socks which feel amazing for the first two washes then start falling apart/getting caught on nails/getting holes etc etc.

What is a good sock for cooler weather? It needs lots of nice cushioning, and is for general wear (not sports specific).

Darn Tough.

They’re officially in the U.K. now. I don’t and won’t buy anything else. Ever. They aren’t cheap though.

This particular sock is my favourite one:

You weren’t kidding lol, I usually get a 6(ish) pack of socks from TK Maxx every few years, currently got Reebok and Converse branded ones in rotation.

Cost me like £10 per 6 pack lol.

I am extremely down for a revived sock thread.

Picked up these Tube socks at the Transport Museum a few weeks ago and am a massive fan.

Oooh these look nice. Might have to give them a try! Lululemon is my usual go-to for hiking socks, but variety is always good!

The flip side is they last forever and are guaranteed for life. I haven’t bought any new socks in years.

The comfort is off the charts. I don’t think I could go back to regular old uncushioned socks now. My feet are too used to these.

The first time you try a cushioned sock is like magic. You’ll never want to go back.

Love those!

I have their James Bond series and they are elite!

Is that £28 for one pair?

It is very pricey but then again, what you said above is making me want to give them a go…

I am intrigued, I may have to get a pair and see how I feel. Could always get a new pair every year or so to build a collection. :joy:

Yep, 1 pair.

Please tell me they are Tube tube socks?

If you just want to try cushioned socks, you can probably find cheaper!

That is a brand I was trying to remember the name of but couldn’t quite manage!

That was my thoughts too!

Have you got the Lifestyle ones @N26throwaway ?

Are they super thick? All my socks are pretty much as thin as they get other than my one pair of hiking socks and I couldn’t imagine them being comfy in anything other than my hiking boots.

Yeah, I have a couple of the standard crew too. It’s only light cushioning though.

It depends on the sock. The more cushioning it has the thicker it’ll be.

The standard crew is just lightly cushioned under your foot (where you’d want it and feel it). The rest of the sock is just your standard uncushioned sock knit, but it’s not like the tk max ones. They’re a very tightly woven yarn, and it’s a merino blend, not cotton.

I guess you are referring to these ones? I’ll order a pair when I get paid at the end of this month.
