The Great Permacrises

On the plus side we don’t get water bills in NI. On the minus side, they don’t have enough money to upgrade the water supply and sewage system which has put a halt to building houses in more and more areas.

Being publicly owned doesn’t sort out the problems of under investment.

Approximately a quarter so you’re talking 50 quid a month.

Wow. I thought Thanes Water was bad at £24pm (metered)

Fair. I didn’t want one either, but had no choice in the end. It’s saved us a lot of money, and I should have had one earlier.

For water? Mine is £28 a month!

Thames Water, no meter.

I’m surprised by how little some of you are paying for water.

We are paying £77.50 per month just for the two of us (metered) with South West Water.

Yorkshire Water, £27/month, unmetered.

£29 per month (metered) - 3-bed detached with 3 toilets, bathroom and ensuite with shower. Only do washing a couple of times a week, though.

I’ve just read that South West Water is one of the most expensive in the country.

Disappointing but there is very little we can do about it. We really don’t use much water, and I see no obvious way to cut down on our usage either.

Hopefully the industry will be re-designed at some point to be a little fairer.

Admittedly water billing is the one I understand the least. I thought we used a fair bit of water and our bills were average, but I guess they’re quite low?

It seems to be Thames Water from what I can see. I’ve never paid more than this for water. Previously was £20 a month. I felt £28 was expensive.

I know nobody who pays as much as some here for water.

I get the Scotland aspect but I wouldn’t want that. If someone is paying £200 a month for council tax including water and I’m paying £120 tax and £28 water I’m far better off paying separately.

I’m pro-nationalisation of water but I don’t see the real benefit of adding it to council tax at this point. It’s not hassle to have one extra direct debit going out if it’s saving me money.

It’s included in our rates in NI (we don’t have council tax), but they’re talking about introducing water charges as a separate thing.

Nationalisation doesn’t help. Ours was never privatised. Snag is that, because they’re publicy owned, they can’t raise additional money. Consequently, more and more house building can’t be done as the water infrastructure just isn’t there to support it.

Not as much as you but more than these London folk who keep telling us it’s an expensive place to live!

It does appear to be water only though. Perhaps it’s by way of sheer numbers - costs can be brought down.

Wessex Water £68 per month. Come April they are raising the bill 24% :unamused:

How strange. We are Wessex water as well, without a meter, so paying the day rate and we’re £48 a month. Same rise as you next month, I expect.R-

24% is sickening.
