In fairness what even is the topic of this thread? . My vague understanding is it’s about basically anything we want it to be.
Exactly. It’s where it should have been in the first place, but someone had a tantrum and the other thread stayed. For nobody to use it.
Then you pay for a Travelcard for the zones you actually use weekly, then for the rest of your travel you leave a few £££ as cash on your Oyster card. The system will automatically charge you the cash fare for the outstanding zones and it will be cheaper overall.
Sorry but you can’t complain about the cost when you’re quite literally throwing money into a fire pit.
Hang on, I completely missed this. The HEX isn’t even covered on your Travelcard?!
Plus these costs should absolutely be covered by your employer.
I feel like when it all comes out in the wash PAYG is actually best for you. Use the money you save to spend travelling on real trains. I hear Denton has been begging for people to go and visit
Lots of bus companies have tracker apps these days. They pretty much all take contactless.
I like to have full access to worldwide transport, but it’s strictly on a pay as you go basis
Heathrow Express isn’t TfL so wouldn’t be covered in a travel card.
But the fact this portion of the commute is covered means that they are actually only paying for the commute from Zone 1-2 which is worse!
This one caught me too. I’m not sure if they actually have to travel around London for their job. Their job is at Heathrow. Any journeys for work though should be covered by an employer.
I just think they are overpaying on a massive scale to the tune of thousands of pounds a year
Is there a typo here or do you mean this?
If my employer requires me to travel to a location that’s not my contracted place of work as a part of my job, I would absolutely be expecting that the costs are covered by my employer.
I meant employer yes
But I mentioned earlier about their costs for travel for work and they replied it was just their commute to Heathrow so they don’t appear to travel around London for work, just to Heathrow - the bulk of which is covered by their employer which is actually pretty good as most commutes aren’t.
All good haha, I did think it was a weird thing to defend
I wonder if the actual solution here is to have the employer pay for a Zone 1-6 Travelcard for the commute plus any work travel.
They can then use the Elizabeth line with their Travelcard to commute.
The extra journeys beyond zone 6 can then just be PAYG.
Well clearly they are, they are also seemingly loaded and don’t seem to mind an extra £1000 here or there, which is I guess their choice.
Huge Red Flags, apparently.
“EnMuskification” I’ve decided to call it.
Facebook are also reportedly donating $millions to Trump’s inauguration.
The only Meta product I use is WhatsApp, and I avoid that where I can.
Community notes are a mess. It’s just another way for folk to force their opinion on something. It’s got nothing to do with facts.
It’s worth pointing out in fairness that the inauguration is pretty much funded by donations and always has been.
Not so say there’s no incentive to donate but I would bet that Facebook would donate regardless of party as do many other US businesses every election.
Not quite.
The donation by Meta seems to mark a shift for the company, as Meta did not make any contribution to Trump’s 2017 or Biden’s 2021 inaugural fund.
I think this year I mean. It’s a key moment in time for social media companies in a way that it wasn’t even a few years ago. It’s in their interest to cosy up to any government.
I guess it always is - my point was that this a first for Meta, and that it coincides with changing moderation to the X model. EnMuskification.
No I know that was your point. I was saying Facebook would have donated regardless at this stage. That’s all.
I doubt they would have if Harris had won, but we’ll never know that for sure.
Keep warm, it’s freezing out there!
