I actually reckon it’ll be Mordaunt as the runner up to the final two. She’ll try her best, but deep down will know she’s governing until the GE can be run, when the Nasty Party will be jettisoned. And good riddance.
Cheeky Greggs
You kept the shirt
Leadership election with an outcome within the week apparently.
So, that means they’ve already chosen right?
EDIT: It was a rhetorical question
They’ve just added some prosecco in
Yes, there’s no way Truss would have been forced out without having the next leader already lined up. They’d want to avoid a damaging and drawn-out leadership election.
I suspect it will be a Sunak figurehead rather than Sunak himself, as Sunak will want to keep his powder dry for a few years in the future when he can come back as a new leader untainted by association with the post-Johnson nonsense. Whoever is the leader now will be a sacrifice, essentially, as no-one could possibly expect the Cons to win the next GE. Could they?
If it’s 2024 that’s a long time in politics, the general public tend to forget all about the past when it comes to politics. So nothings off the table when it comes to a vote.
If this new PM says, yep the previous lot made mistakes, here’s how I’m gonna fix it. Then manages to do just that, it could sway people to vote for them still.
I reckon Penny Mourdant, at a guess
Not yet. It will be an accelerated process with an online vote by members if there are two candidates.
I’m firmly of the view that the Conservative government is so dysfunctional, that if they don’t bow to popular demand/clear and apparent reality and call a GE in 2023, there will be riots. People are mad as hell and they’re not going to take it any more.
Indeed, I meant it as a rhetorical question but I can see why it wasn’t seen as that
I happen to also agree - as I’ve suggested it wouldn’t surprise me if it was total left field here
Mea culpa, I acknowledge your intent and that I missed it. I blame tone on the internet being a tricksy thing.
Yes, let’s bring back the PM that started this mess.
Never mind. Trying to share an FB link here is a pile of shite.
Ohhh that’s my birthday! New prime minister what a present.
Honestly, I think it will be Sunak or Mouradant, either will do alright and the public will collectively forget all of this by next spring. In the end we’ll have a close fought election in 2024 which the conservatives might well win.
Who knew that Brexit would cause such instability
