The future of Monzo Business Accounts

I thought this was useful!

Any word on fees yet? Revolut is 25 a month so if it beats that, I’ll be switching

At the moment it’s £5 a month.

Really? Blimey

Never had a business account myself, but Starling is free (subject to certain gradations) and some of the high streets have been mentioned on here as around 5 to 6 a month

What are Revolut delivering, not even as a full bank, that could explain that gulf?!

It’s the only one I could find that would accept an invoice payment in NOK at face value. I’ve only used it for one month’s invoices so far but it saved me a few hundred quid over normal bank use. Well worth the 25 quid until something better like Monzo comes up.

Barclays business accounts are £6.50 and you can have a free Barclay credit card on the account otherwise there is a fee for the credit depending on which card you use.

If it meets your needs and saved you money then that’s great, but that is a whacking great fee

I take it that while base business accounts elsewhere are cheaper up front that this is something they charge extra for?

Extra charges seems to be the hallmark of business accounts!

Thanks

Can you expand a little on that point for the uninitiated?

There have different credit cards with various different aprs and credit limits and depending which one you go for there is different fees attached. There are fee waivers attached as well.

Mine is the select credit card but I don’t pay a fee. I get 16.9% with a 6,000 limit.

Thanks again

Not just Monzo on a quest to find out more about business accounts

Though in my case there is no money on the line

I will keep my Barclays credit card but as soon as international payments are a thing on the Monzo business account I will probably switch over to Monzo

Might be worth making sure you vote for that on the Trello board if you have not already (cc @jackcully)

Sorry if this has been mentioned before but when will more companies get access?

The rollout is frustratingly slow but they are trying to get it right for everyone. I believe that they’ve still only issued just over 200 Accounts so far out of the 15,000 on the waiting list, so it’s going to be a while yet for everyone :frowning::woman_shrugging:

We’re really sorry it feels slow at the moment @TaffyApple!

The most important thing for us is building something that businesses are going to love, and doing it in a way that means we can support thousands (and hopefully hundreds of thousands!) of businesses without compromising that experience!

Right now, we’ve built the fundamentals of the account, and we’re bringing more accounts to more businesses on our waitlist every week. Scaling the operation up is something we need to do slowly for now, until we’re convinced we’ve got this right. We’ll get quicker over time, as we get more comfortable with all the background processes that’re needed to keep your experience in the foreground smooth and seamless!

Trust me, there’s no group of people that want this account in the hands of our entire waitlist more than us on the team! Thank you so much for sticking with us and being so patient, we really do appreciate it

Hi @jackcully, I understand and get it, no worries, I wasn’t having a go at you guys, I was just trying to answer the question and I did say that you are trying to get it right for everyone which is good and I’m sure it will be great when it arrives

I would like to trial it now as using Coconut, but as they are PrePaid card I get duplicate transactions due to the 3DS not being enabled, they also are currently not looking at becoming a bank.

I only started as a sole trader 01/07 I have one client that pays me via bank transfers so I would rather get in now so I can provide new details a get away from Coconut even though the bulk of stuff is good and free, the fact that I need double the amount in the account for card transactions is annoying.

At the moment I only need to make card payments setup a DD and recieve bank transfers, everything else for me can come later.

Let me in now it will be our little secret @jackcully :joy:

Curious about this – reviewing my RBS business account at the moment.

+s for Monzo - already have personal account. Ability to have pots / jars is a big one, I’d like to set aside cash for VAT, tax and expenses / overheads as I go along.
-s is that RBS is handy enough to transfer cash to my personal account (so is Monzo). It also supples a free subscription to FreeAgent which i found pretty useful. Also - as a savings account - it’s free of fees as well.

I also am a sole trader and only have one source of irregular income.

Ponders and might put my name on the waiting list.

Doesn’t RBS have instant savings accounts then?
