The direction of Monzo

This will cheer you up

When is Monzo USA going to be fully functional. Does anyone know when they will get their bank license? It drives me crazy seeing the growth of that ā€œdodgy not even a bank) company growing so fast. You never seem to get much good news coming from Monzo

Surprisingly not - I was not aware they offered that option. I’ve never had a Starling account as I never felt the need alongside my Monzo account. I will probably be opening one shortly.

In 3-9 months according to the only source I am aware of.

Gotta love these roundabout topics! Being honest, so long as Monzo looks after my weekly wage (a day early) DDs come out on time (which it does), Pay for the roof over my head (which it does)
And my cards work in a ATM (which it does). Then I’m staying, I get why people have to dissect everything, that’s human nature! But normally these posts end up going nowhere.

Anyone know why Starling shut their forum down?

Barclays have travel wallets on their standard current account.

Thanks so I would guess anytime after April 2022 for the USA bank licence. Taking into account the covid situation.

Best customer service. Revolut is the worst.

Monzo pays your rent? :eyes:. Where do I get this feature

Generally these topics go nowhere because it’s a bunch of people like me who know nothing and don’t have enough context, knowledge etc Still without getting too philosophical that’s also what most human conversation is! It’s still fun to discuss.

At a guess, it’ll been full of the type of people who just argue all the time and bring no benefit to any type of conversation.

Easier just to close it down so that you don’t have to spend time monitoring and dealing with every kick off.

IIRC that is pretty close to the mark.

Plus Starling didn’t like a lot of the feedback.

IMO they don’t seem to have suffered much for lack of a forum :man_shrugging:

The only thing Monzo gain from this forum is us all giving free customer support.

Perhaps today, but they have benefited HUGELY over the years from it being a free publicity tool. Every single lazy journalist writes about the ā€œengaged and buzzing community of fans on Monzo’s forumā€ which is why I have always believed that in the past this place has been ā€œcuratedā€ to give a certain appearance to newcomers. 11:FS, an organisation never ashamed to see how far they can disappear up Monzo’s metaphorical proverbial in a way I’ve never seen them do for any other organisation in fintech (even the one they helped create before they got dumped off the project/ decided to leave) held up the Monzo community as the best example of customer engagement. It may have outlived its usefulness now as anything other than a bit of free customer service as you say, but I truly believe it’s most important purpose to Monzo will have been its role in controlling and setting the narrative of the Monzo brand in the eyes of influence setters.

There is probably some truth to that, but probably only in the narrow slice of time between 2017 and 2018

By the time I jumped aboard the Monzo train as both a customer and a forum user, with the number of customers then rapidly flying towards a million, the forum had taken a form on a daily basis that seems very similar to now

I’d agree with that. There was definitely a change of ā€˜feel’ with the forum, which I can’t explain at all btw, during the tail-end of 2018.

 (hmm, that period coincides with the launch of Joint Accounts)

I agree if I were to put a specific time on it I might say about May 2018 - not long after prepaid closed and they completed ā€˜bankification’ - was about the time the forum moved from being an ā€˜asset’ toward a ā€˜problem’

oh we cross posted there, but interestingly close conclusions

I joined the forum in August 2018, so at least I cannot be blamed for that! :joy:

Freetrade would not exist today without it’s community (The words of CEO & Founder) Adam Dodds I would also say in the past 6 months it has a bit of pizazz as they have banned many contributors till the year 3020. God forbid if you say one thing that either A/ The fanatics disagree with or B/ The moderators.

Sure, Brian. Whatever you say.

Did we perhaps get ourselves banned?
