While splitting the bill is great if everyone has ordered roughly the same, in a lot of cases, there’s a friend which orders quite a bit less and it’s awkward having them pay the same amount as everyone else.
Companies such as Receipt AI already have integration where you can scan your receipt and it will order it by line, so it would be great if this could be integrated or Monzo could make something similar in-house which could then display all items in the app, ready to be allocated to each person.
Let me know your thoughts and whether this is a good possibility, personally, I think this would be much more fair and would make it less of an awkward situation.
In an ideal world POS systems could agree on a QR code which would provide all of the data in an open format, but that’s likely to never happen
I’m sure I’ve seen several receipt recognition APIs and tools out there, that if an app doesn’t already exist, it could be built. Just with the Monzo bill splitting integration would take the cake (if Monzo added more to their APIs it could be an exciting future - even allowing multiple apps to be created with slightly different experiences so people can pick what works best).
It would definetely make splitting the bill so much easier
Wouldn’t necessarily have to be a specific QR code - just any sort of QR which would envelop all of the details into a JSON format or something universally accepted. But yes, completely agree and if Monzo were to add this, would be a chef’s kiss to splitting the bill.
Yes, I very agree that dividing the bill equally can feel strange if someone has eaten much less. Adding a feature like Receipt AI to Monzo would really be amazing change. It’s more fair, and nobody has to pay extra than their part. Also, it helps everyone avoid the awkward “can you pay a little more?” talk.
Thought it was just someone older, perhaps they do speak a bit too GPT-ey. Regardless, they agreed with my point so I’m not going to criticise them. ¯ \ _ (ツ) _ / ¯
It’s often that AI models state ‘especially’ to support their argument, this user’s posts do rely on that word a lot. Doesn’t mean that it’s necessarily bad that AI is supporting my suggestion!
Plus life experience. I’ve worked in IT all my life (networks, telecoms, security, systems analysis) and have had to communicate with people of all ages and backgrounds, so I probably write in a way that, hopefully, most people can understand.
