I’m not fully in the loop with the logistics, but my understanding is simply that we did not want to delay shipping to allow for a bigger gap between media hands on and customers getting them. That, and there was an OTA originally intended for post launch that got completed faster, and it opened the possibility of that OTA landing before we do media. So that’s a tradeoff you have to make, but it’s a rather good update.
I hosted a Space last night with Jesse, Aravind from Perplexity, Vinod Khosla, Bobak the CEO from Brilliant Labs, and we had Dave up on the stage as well and we briefly touched on some of the points he’d made. He mentioned he found it all quite informative, and I suspect we clarified some of his questions. We’ll have to see. Perhaps he’ll make another video or want to do a review. He’s more than welcome to from our perspective.
As far as MKBHD, no embargo, but his timeline is his timeline. I heard they had a great conversation. Beyond that, the whats and whens are solely up to him and his team.
I feel like mkbhd’s video will be him explaining what a lam is, saying the hardware feels nice or cheap and then say if they deliver, in the future, the lam roadmap then enough people will get value out of it.
I’m thinking if I can get it to read me out my mfa code for N service I might just buy one if it’s small and light enough, idea: make it a Bluetooth fido passkey too.
I’m warming up to the separate hardware play to keep me off my phone , I’d go back to calorie counting properly if i could LAM teach it to use my app of choice and say it all via voice commands when I’m making food or use the picture ai to estimate,
I think the lam vision (as in roadmap vision not ai vision) is exciting and the criticism is valid regarding lack of information available and I think it’s because it’s early beta still, but just don’t buy one I guess, I won’t be buying one now even though I’m sure it will double in price if the LAM vision is executed well, but if it saves me lots of time and I can operate android apps effectively without looking at them then I’m looking forward.
I do see the possibility of Google assistant becoming competition.
It wasn’t, but my experiences with events at Monzo have certainly come in handy! This will be, dare I say, a little flashier than anything we did at Monzo though! A full interactive experience, with custom rabbit visuals, display experiences, branded drinks, a great DJ, and some big names from the tech media and influencer world!
Already consigning the vision pro off to the tech dustbin It’s only been six weeks or so since launch! (although honestly, fair it’s basically headed that way already)
