Round-up style saving ... 'Coin Jar' šŸ’°

It’s actually way more like OCPD than OCD, anal retentiveness it used to be called

I’m sitting here with my OCD unsure of everything around me and not sure what’s me or what’s it or how I’m managing to do anything. It attacks every moment I exist right now. It very much sucks

Edit: if Monzo makes something called an OCD pot then I can no longer support you guys at all, I’m sorry :frowning:

This is a great idea. Thank you so much mate

+1 for this because:

Awesome! It doesn’t really affect me (as I pay most things by credit card), but good to see it’ll benefit other users.

Right, now I need a ā€˜Bills Jar’ and have my direct debits automatically paid from certain pots for bills. Now this would really be cool.

Set mine up this morning, thanks Monzo! I just need to work out a system which doesn’t require me adding two transactions to YNAB each time…

Omg! That’s exactly what I’m doing :joy:

How are you doing it? Do you have your extra account set up as an account? Or do you have a category for it? I do the latter. So once once the money has gone, its not in my budget and I’m not tempted to spend it

Also, I actually like the fact that it’s hassle doing it as two transactions… Makes me think twice about spending on my card

I’m not sure how I’m going to do it actually. I have a pot in Monzo which I have listed as a ā€˜Savings account’ in YNAB.

I think I’ll add transactions and then ā€˜transfer’ the remainder into a new category and then move the total at the end of the month to the ā€˜Savings’ account so it all ties up. Not sure if I’ll get too OCD during the month with the totals not being exactly the same though lol!

Definitely agree though, will make me think twice about spending on the card (probably not a bad thing!)

Haha Yeh, I’m just going to take the hit and spend the time doing it every day

My totals have to be right. Closest I’ll ever get to having an OCD lol

I realised I was a penny out the other day. It took me a while!

Oh man, I’ve been there. Agonising over a week’s worth of transactions trying to find one pence lol!

YNAB is super though, best $50 I’ve spent in a long time (fee-free thanks to Monzo lol)!

It’s the best money I ever spent. I signed up to it over 10 years ago and I’ve used it since. I couldn’t live without it, tbh I really don’t know how people do.

I actually sat on 3 live streams over a few nights until stupid o’clock, just to learn to use it properly. It was good times actually

It is heartbreaking when you have to give up and make a reconciliation transaction :joy:

Haha good old Monzo

This is a pretty fun and cool way to phase something in, if that was the intention!

Thanks, we thought so too. We like to keep our community ā€œin the knowā€ and it’s nice for us to be able to clue you all in on something before the official announcement :slight_smile:ļø

Quick question - does rounding not work if the user’s balance is less than Ā£10 before the transaction or will it also not work if it’s under Ā£10 after the transaction?

I have always thought about the ā€˜self insurance’ with a phone. But considering phone insurance is about Ā£10 a month, instead of about Ā£30 ā€˜Self insurance’ that you propose. Plus I break my phone on adverage about once every 6 months.

So on balance I reckon proper phone insurance is probably for the best, I have just never got round to sorting it out.

I think it varies in individual circumstances… I’ve claimed on phone insurance once in my life…

And it would have cost me about the same as my excess to pay to get it fixed…

You definitely benefit from good insurance.

I’ve had mobile phones ever since Orange started in the U.K. I’ve lost one, and broken one out of about 15 different models. Insurance would have been a waste of money for me.

Absolutely loving that this has been added. Just activated it and will be cancelling a similar service I use in favour of this.

I’ve just had my first experience of this

It actually works really quick and shows up in EMMA

I honestly love it. I can’t save much. So this is the one from now on.

I’ve already saved over Ā£3 and it hasn’t really made any difference to my account… (well Ā£3 difference, but you know what I mean)
