Rent payment reporting to credit agencies

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if Monzo has ever looked into reporting rent payments to credit reference agencies?

For many of us, rent is the biggest monthly outgoing. Some providers (like CreditLadder or Canopy) already let tenants report rent to improve their credit profile, but it would be amazing if Monzo could build this natively into the app.

On the surface, benefits could include:

  • Helping renters build their credit score with consistent on-time rent payments.
  • Making renting fairer for those who don’t have mortgages but still manage large monthly commitments.
  • Reducing the need for third-party apps and fees.

I also believe this could be a great opportunity for Monzo to expand the value of its paid plans.

Personally, it would definitely make me consider upgrading from Extra to Perks or even Max, if rent reporting were included as a feature to all 3 credit agencies instead of having to pick one or pay a separate provider for all 3. It feels like something that would genuinely add value for a lot of renters.

Is this something Monzo has ever considered?

Would love to hear what others think too.

Monzo can’t report payments for non Monzo products to credit reference agencies. It’s the provider of the product who reports the payment profile to the CRA’s - not your bank…so would need to be your landlord.

I’m guessing that the landlord would have to register and pay to do this. Would you be up for covering their costs?
