Receiving Split Payment Automatic Categories

Hello

I have a running monthly split with my other half so we can keep track of who owes which party what each month (romantic I know, but it works for us).

When I receive payments from these splits it’s categorised as “General”. I would prefer that it was automatically categorised proportionally to the categories that make up the split. For example if I’ve spent £100 it’s 20% groceries, 50% Eating Out, and 30% transport, then I receive back £20 from my other half, I’d like that £20 to be allocated £4 as groceries (20%), £10 as eating out (50%, and £6 (30%) to Transport.

I find that I have to spend quite a bit of time figuring this out by looking at the itemised split. Sometimes it’s very easy, but other times it can take quite a bit of unpicking.

Is that because they settle all? Bill splits generally go back to the category they were originally spent.

No, this isn’t a split, which is indeed set to the category. I’m talking about a running split, where you can add multiple items to a running total and set who owes what of each item. All parties then have the option of repaying all, or part of the total. The problem is that when payment is received it’s classified as general, and I’d prefer it was split appropriately based on the items in the running split and what % that person owes.

If they pay one by one will it return to the category it was paid? Via running split I mean.

I think the issue with running splits (previously called shared tabs) is that if the split is fairly evenly matched I.e. both people spend a similar amount of money it can go on for a long time without it being settled (someone pays) this means it would be hard to determine exactly which categories should be included

The only way (without a joint account) to keep things accurate on a monthly basis would be to split every transaction and pay immediately- this would be a pain as money would be going back and forth constantly.

Wouldn’t need to pay the split immediately. Just all separately at some point in time for them to go to the correct category.
