Seems Monzo are surveying some customers about a potential rewards card, original info is from Reddit as per link below but these are the details from that post to save a click:
£15-£17 monthly fee
1% cashback on groceries - 0.5% on everything else. Cashback is automatically invested.
If it was a free card, or less than £5 a month then maybe. There are very good cashback cards with no annual fees. For less than £5 a month there’s even more good ones.
At £180+ annual fee, this has no value. All World Elite Mastercards and Amex cards provide a better value for a similar annual fee.
Personally I would like to see Monzo release a few cards in a batch.
Credit Builder Card - Access to Credit Insights, Small Limits at first but grows overtime and possible interest reduction over time as on-time payments are made.
Reward Card - 0.5% to 1% uncapped cashback on purchases. No fees for overseas spending. Possibly low APR. (similar to the Lloyds Ultra Card)
Max Credit Card - Airport Lounge Access, Insurance Benefits, Sensible Cashback Rate, Airport Fast Track, Maybe Some Addons like AI Subscriptions, Uber Eats etc. Annual Fee for users. (similar to the Lloyds World Elite and Revolut Ultra)
That’s just some ideas I have in my head and cards I think would insert well into the Monzo Offering.
I also think that as a lot of people have moved into Monzo for everything banking related having lots of different credit card options would entice people to stay with Monzo even more
I think a competitive credit card would be 0.5% flat cash back with zero FX fees abroad. Not sure if it would be a loss leader but I think it would be a well placed product.
lounge passes/fees/subscriptions sounds very Amex esq and I don’t see people dropping their Amex’s anytime soon
Fast Track passes cost me £10 and I only travel maximum twice a year.
All in all, these are very high fees, unless one is already using the services involved. For example, if you are using Gemini and Apple TV, that might be a good offer.
I’m paying 10 per month for the M&S Rewards card, but at least you get hot drink vouchers and a 25 voucher every quarter so in effect you are just paying for your rewards in advance
The middle option might appear to me. I currently pay £30/month for a Times subscription, lthough this allows me to share access with others, the unshareable mobile only sub is normally £20/month.
Airport lounge access would probably get used, particularly if it was just a couple of times per year.
The cashback thing is okay. I would be intrigued to know if it would apply to joint account spend though.
