Monzo Premier Account - What and Why?

It’s literally just me. For being off topic. Dan is power hungry. And hates me. I’m done. Bring back Alan doe

I’m sure the ability to post off topic comments without being flagged would be by far the most beneficial benefit for Monzo Premier Account clients.

I won’t pay for that.

I’d be happy with a metal version of the Business card.

I honestly don’t feel Premier banking is for monzo.

This would be be the reason why.

Monzo helps people manage their finances and get to a good position, then people move banks to the more mature style to handle their financials going forward.

The app would need to change design and align to my “maturity” level, not bold colours and shiny emoji.

To compete with what is available elsewhere:

  • 24/7/365 support (chat or phone)
  • No investment fees and ETFs
(if I’m doing it myself there should be no fees!)
  • Black card (Mastercard World Elite)
  • Worldwide travel insurance
  • Some sort of extra like an Apple TV subscription

I see theres some hardcore collectors. Are these hard-core collectors premier customers I wonder.

Ok. So it wasnt Dan.

So I’ve offended someone else. Being off topic can’t be enough, so I assuming someone else will be blocked for the overuse of the flag.

Wow!

People move away/mature from Monzo before they even get anywhere near this level. But then AI only copied this from other banks’ criteria.

Also, Premier banking is so far off brand for Monzo when customer support is still questionable and this demographic are also less likely to want to bank anywhere without any bricks and mortar representation. At least try to get to First Direct’s customer service.

It screams “banking should be fun and easy to understand” to me, so Monzo seems to attract more audience from the BNPL crowd and the neuro-spicy. It’s great for users, but that does mean it’s harder for Monzo to make money as a business once these audience mature from emojis and bright colours.

A continuous focus on improving financial literacy and shifting debts (e.g. Updraft, etc.), less cluttered app to get one’s finances under control feels more on-brand to me. IFTTT and Open Banking integration is fantastic for some IoT set up.

Even gimmicks like plushie for a fee, pay to customise my own card (better quality needed) would keep me more loyal to the brand. The Card Design thread is a prime example of how obsessive we are for a thing that’s becoming obsolete (on that note, give us the metal card even if it’s for £10 PLEASE).

P.S: Feels like I’m replying to the topic Growing up with Monzo - what, if anything, needs to change?, so feel free to move my reply there.

Interesting that they seem to be two lenses on the same thing.

I suppose the exam question for Monzo is how do they keep customers as their needs change over the years? Maybe they’ve got smart folk thinking that through…

They follow Bob Dylan’s advice:

Your debutante knows what you need, but I know what you want.

“Stuck inside of Mobile” if anyone is interested. Brilliant song.

I suspect this is more true than we might want to admit in that people looking for a premier account are unlikely to consider Monzo, likely for the following reasons.

The thing I really want is not the card, but the support. I want to be able to ring, yes ring, Monzo or have actual live chat, when I need it
I just want the card to work everywhere. One of the barriers to coming back to Monzo is this. I don’t want to play silly games on airplanes hoping they might not see the card. I just want it to work.

Any maybe they’ve identified their target demographic and Premier is not one of those?

I could envisage Starling going Premier status but not monzo.

They’re doing what Monzo could do with, focussing on your core.

I have a vision of a Monzo Lounge replacing the Metro Bank branch opposite Primark Birmingham High Street, selling merch in branch.
Cash in your pennies and then cross the street for a Greggs buffet.

They’re focusing on BaaS. But I still can’t bring myself to like their confusing UI.

I thought they were on about monzo UI
