Monzo pots feature

Hey,

I have setup pots and schedule payment for each pots i.e, food shop, eat out, bills

When I use monzo card payment will the money deduct from pots allocated money for the categories or personal account

No, when you spend on your debit card your funds will come from your main account.

You can assign a virtual card to a Pot, and when you spend on that virtual card, it’ll take money from the Pot.

That would be too unreliable, even if it worked. If it pulled money based on category of spending… food sometimes gets marked as shopping, clothes etc

I’m not sure you understand.

Create a Pot labelled Groceries, create a virtual card in that Pot and spend directly from that card and it’ll come from your Grocery Pot.

Same goes for shopping, or subscriptions pots.

:ireland: cough Monzo Ireland cough :ireland:

From what I understand about Monzo Ireland accounts, they work very similarly to Monzo UK, but no paid plans available (as of yet). So any purchases would only come from your main balance, and you would need to manually transfer out of your pots.

Monzo US let’s you have payments from specific merchants come from allocated pots, and Monzo UK let’s you pay for virtual cards which you can assign to a pot, but nothing for Ireland yet, as far as i’m aware.

Didn’t realise it was Ireland, they get free virtual cards

In that case…

If you create a virtual card and assign to a pot, you would need to pay using that virtual card for the payment to come from the pot.

(So now both Ireland and US get virtual cards for free… Why are we in the UK still having to pay for at least Extra (£3 a month) for them?)

It’s one of the only useful features on the £3pm plan. But I’m not paying for it. I’ve got virtual cards for free on other accounts so I won’t need them with Monzo. Naturally, I’d like to use Monzo for everything, but their basic functions are paywalled so I am not moving everything across just yet until they align with the mainstream.

Same. None of my subscriptions are with Monzo as I like to pay them from a pot and both Starling & Revolut allow me to do that for free.

If Monzo ever made virtual cards free (or even made the extra plan free if you paid in your salary) I’d likely move them all over to have everything in one app.

They don’t even align with their service in different countries. They’re free in Ireland and the USA
