Is there appetite for a credit card that gives avios and travel perks? I’d much prefer to transfer my accounts over to Monzo but they currently don’t offer anything competitive - do others feel similar?
I have the Barclays Premier current account and credit card that gives me a number of travel perks:
2x avios for £1 spent (on credit card)
4x access to airport lounges per year
1x annual BA cabin upgrade voucher (this is a bit useless as BA goes down the pan but a better one would be a generic upgrade voucher for any avios carrier)
Going into the Avios world is expensive. Monzo would get a rush of folk wanting any account they can get easy ways to earn Avios and Monzo have to pay for each Avios prior to giving them to the customers.
There’s a reason most Avios accounts are behind either large income requirements, higher annual fees or on American Express (with higher merchant fees allowed).
I just don’t see it happening. It’s not as simple as just offering them.
Totally agree I would switch to Monzo in a heartbeat if they had a proper Avios-earning card and real travel perks. Feels like a big missed opportunity for a bank that otherwise nails the user experience
Hopefully they can add it to the pipeline and as more banks are starting to offer it, it would keep Monzo competitive in the market. Appreciate it’s not for everyone but it’s certainly a factor for me!
