Monzo Mobile Needs a Family Plan
I’ve been looking at moving our family over to Monzo Mobile, but unfortunately there’s one thing stopping me at the moment.
Right now I manage and pay for three mobile plans on my EE account — mine, my partner’s and my 13-year-old daughter’s. My partner and daughter both already have Monzo bank accounts, so I thought it would be great if I could move all three numbers across and continue managing everything from one place.
However, Monzo Mobile currently requires each plan to be linked to the individual account holder, and they need to be 18 or over. That means I can’t move my daughter’s number across, and I wouldn’t be able to manage all three family plans under my own account.
I think Monzo should seriously consider introducing a family plan option where one main account holder can manage and pay for additional family members, including children, while still allowing everyone to keep their own number and phone.
It would also be great if family members had the option to take full control of their own plan if they wanted to. For example, my partner could manage her own number, data and settings through her own Monzo account, while I could still choose to pay for it. For younger family members, such as my daughter, the parent could remain in control until they are old enough to manage it themselves.
Other useful features could include individual data limits, spending controls, family discounts, number transfers and one place to view all family usage and bills.
For me, this is the main reason I won’t be switching from EE just yet. If Monzo introduced family mobile plans with flexible control options, I think it could make the service much more attractive to families and potentially bring over several mobile lines at once rather than just one.
Hopefully this is something the Monzo Mobile team considers for the future.
