Monzo Labs: Connected Credit Cards

Is there a plan for Sainsburys Bank integration?

From what’s been said before mate, not until September when all banks have to have an Open Banking API

Thanks Dan - sorry I must have missed it being mentioned before! Thanks for the clarification!

I successfully connected my Nationwide credit card, and the process was smooth and easy. So step 1 – excellent!

Having had the card in Monzo for a few days now, I’ve found it only marginally useful. What is important to me, and what would make this a can’t-do-without feature would be:

  1. Instant data updates :boom:, so what I’m looking at is always accurate :gem:. At the moment, it’s easier to just go to the Nationwide app (which isn’t Monzo, but is decent) as I know I will get the most accurate info :chart_with_downwards_trend::chart_with_upwards_trend:. This is not a huge deal at the moment with only the balance (I don’t use the credit card frequently), but will be make-or-break if transaction history is added .

  2. Ability to tap on the card :point_right::credit_card: and see the transaction history :receipt:. Again, at the moment, I get more information from going to the Nationwide app. But if I could tap in the Monzo app and see my transaction history, with all the Monzo merchant data enrichment :world_map::bullettrain_front:, that would be :hot_coral_heart:.

  3. Bonus points would be to show transactions immediately. :trophy::star: The Nationwide app and website currently takes the legacy banking approach of waiting 2-3 days for transactions to appear, it drives me crazy. :stopwatch::alarm_clock::hourglass_flowing_sand:

The former. I can still see the cards (I have two) but I have to tap on the reconnect button and reauthorise.

Seems unlikely before September when credit cards will be required to provide APIs to third-parties. The current ‘screen-scraping’ method is too problematic with American Express and TrueLayer (for technical reasons unknown to me).

Absolutely agree with this. Simply showing the balance is a little underwhelming.

I’m sure these deeper integrations will appear (unless Monzo takes it’s normal ‘half baked’ approach). After all, Emma already does this.

Looks like it’s sorted itself out. Kinds wish it included pending transactions

I’ve raised this issue with TrueLayer and provided an analysis to help with debugging.

Just disconnected again (not complaining as it’s beta, but thought that it might be useful to know about the frequency). This is what I see:

Anyone know if subsidiaries work?(i.e John lewis being a subsidiary of HSBC, I assume not ) But I thought I would ask :raised_hands:

Not sure I would think not as can’t use MBNA which is now a subsidiary of Lloyd’s.

Ah okay

How do I remove a card from the app?

If it’s the same login details then it should (Bank of Scotland and Halifax for example) - but if it’s a different site not listed (like MBNA) then it won’t I’m afraid. :pensive:

My log in details for Halifax and Bank Of Scotland are completely different - are yours the same?

My Halifax accounts are visible within my Bank of Scotland app, but when I tried to use my BoS log in details for connecting via TrueLayer to add my Halifax card it didn’t work. So I registered for online banking with Halifax, but username etc are all totally different from BoS.

I believe right now that turning off Labs option blats the lot

Knowing the setup here, I would say no.

Download the latest version of Monzo, it allows you to delete individual accounts
