Monzo Ireland FAQ

Not initially, but it’s definitely something we’re exploring :eyes:

At least that’s something that you can avoid the tax through going to shops instead of to an ATM.

Will Monzo Ireland look to join the pillar banks in Zippay?

Is it meant to be possible to send money to UK Monzo users? I have some people in my contacts who are definitely Monzo UK users, but I don’t get any available payees in the app. When I hit the button to “Pay someone new” I just get a blank sheet. This is on iOS by the way.

Have you shared access to your contacts with the app?

Yup, granted full access to my contacts.

Looked this up, makes sense for a small challenger like Monzo to join up with the Irish high street banks to help try and at least even out the playing field from behemoths like Revolut. At least in the UK it’s not a problem as most people seem to show no mind to Revolut because they’re unlicensed and have been unable to get properly licensed for years now continually failing to meet regulator requirements

Technically, they’re customers of a different bank, in a foreign country, so it might be illegal to share their details.

Revolut are the same and people can send money worldwide with a tag like Monzo so don’t think it’s this

I wouldn’t have thought this would work, being a different currency. Other than the currency exchange on card purchases processed by the card network, I don’t think Monzo has direct currency exchange capabilities in app

In the UK they use Wise behind the scenes to manage International Transfers between currencies, maybe that’s not enabled on the Irish app yet  @Cian

I don’t think that would apply here though, that’s Monzo > External Account, not Monzo > Monzo user.

And Monzo > Monzo user would require some form of currency conversion mechanism in house / app (which Revolut does have)

True although I was thinking back to this but I’ve not heard much on it since, it was a BETA though
