I recently sent a cheque to Monzo and it got lost in the post. Then tried again and got lost again. Had to walk to Monzo HQ in my lunch break to finally get the money in my account, and even that took a week or so to clear.
If I didn’t work in central London I think i would’ve honestly opened a separate current account just to pay it in.
I live in the North East of England. Thankfully in a city, so being able to walk into a branch for paying in money and cheques is a possibility. Sending cheques via post would be too much of a risk.
Me:“Sets up huge cannon out window”
Neighbour:“why do you have a huge cannon?”
Me:Its so I can safely deliver my Check.

As a small update to my last post, I had a chat with someone at Barclays today and when cheque imaging is available. The testing of this has now ended so it’s unlikely you can get it added manually (which is what people were being added to before) but they are now starting to roll it out as a complete and working feature so it should show up at some point soon.
I tried to get cheque imaging added manually a few months ago. I was told they couldn’t do it and that I should wait for the manual rollout, which still hasn’t happened unfortunately.
You could a few months ago but it did depend on who you asked, my understanding from having a chat with someone there today is that they were running a test pilot of the feature to a limited number of customers before rolling out the feature fully functional. He didn’t have a specific date on the roll out though, but I would guess this year considering the speed of their app development.
HSBC and Halifax/Lloyds have cheque imaging built into their apps now if anyone wants the feature asap rather than waiting for Barclays to get their act together.
They’ve also just spent loads of money trying to integrate Monzo’s and Starling’s features into Halifax’s new branding. I’m quite surprised Barclays as the biggest bank have only just implemented cheque imaging.
