Hello there, has anyone been travelling in Nepal mote recently (2019) and can confirm the card works ok at ATMs if magstrip is enabled? Thanks
Rather late to reply to you monty1 but I’m just back from Nepal so thought I’d share my recent experience with the community:
*My card worked fine in ATMs which display the MasterCard sign (perhaps not unsurprisingly, it didn’t work in ATMs which weren’t linked to MasterCard).
*When I first arrived I enabled the mag strip but but I forgot when I next needed to withdraw cash over two weeks later and was surprised to find that it worked anyway (I was in Bhaktapur, but it was one of the smaller banks).
*When I was in Nepal in 2017 the maximum withdrawal from any ATM I tried was 10,000 rupees. This time some of the machines were offering more. Definitely 50,000, possibly 100,000 (I don’t remember exactly as I never needed that much).
