🐎 Lloyds Banking Group Chat

For Scottish Widows, will they need to see ID/Proof of address? And will be this be during the application or afterwards if it is required?

Oh and how quickly will they get it all set up? LBG current accounts and savings are instant, but SW might be more legacy?

In what is probably bad news, it added fine to my iPad but still no luck with phone or watch.

Sounds like an excuse for a new phone and watch

Lloyds cards get banned by Visa at the device level and there’s nothing anybody seems to be able to do about it apart from get a new device that’s not banned.

It’s something to do with Apple Pay authentication keys and only a certain amount can be assigned to a device. If you add a card to Apple Pay then that card/device match gets a key. If you remove it and add it again then it gets another key, and so on until you reach the maximum amount for that card/device pair.

What’s very frustrating is that sometimes it can be a new card as Visa won’t send any more authentication keys to that device.

Lloyds don’t know how to help, Visa don’t want to help.

Madness really, as far as I know it’s only LBG that has this problem and only with their Visa cards.

Not sure if you’ve watched this, but Visa and Apple Pay is not a good combination. To me, it might just be a blessing in disguise if it doesn’t work but I am biased for Android. :joy:

In that case I’ll probably just take the £200 switching bonus and move on. It is particularly odd that the MBNA card added with no problems though.

What is the limit? I could be above that limit by now but still able to add them.

When the card is set to be a transit card.

Tried to open a current account with Lloyds today, went through the in app process, did my id etc, got to the question about Employment… I chose ‘Full Time Employment’ and it instantly said ‘sorry declined we cannot open an account for you’ so I guess I am still on there ‘no fly’ list

How about you try unemployed :grin:.

Funny thing when I had just moved to UK I put unemployed on the online form, as my start date was in 3 months, got booked for a branch appointment to complete the application.
At the branch they only asked for my ID and proof of address and there I went.

I’m having the same issue with my new Lloyds card. Works fine on my watch but getting the same error on my phone. Did you manage to fix it?

Nope. From the replies above I think I’m stuck (certainly not planning on replacing my phone just to make a Lloyds card work).

It’s probably worth adding that the physical card hasn’t arrived yet (and the Lloyds support chat suggested using chip and pin before trying to add it) but:

  • I can successfully add it to my iPad already (just not phone or watch)
  • I’ve also been able to add my MBNA card to my phone without having or using the physical card.

Trying to remember all the things I tried with them…

Use the chip & pin - didn’t work

Wait 24 hours after you use the chip & pin - didn’t work

Remove the card from all your devices and then re-add the phone first, then wait 24 hours and add the watch - didn’t work

Lloyds adding the card to a special part of their security systems that can only be accessed by certain high-level staff, where there are no restrictions whatsoever on the card - didn’t work

The fraud team removing all the Apple Pay keys from my account - didn’t work

The fraud team watching my account while I tried to add the card to Apple Pay - didn’t work as they couldn’t understand why the key appeared and then disappeared

Raise a case with Visa - didn’t work as Visa direct you to Lloyds who are the card issuer

Raise a complaint with Lloyds - they completely ran out of things to try and in the end just paid me some money and said they they couldn’t work out what to try next and that they weren’t able to offer Apple Pay to me for this card/device

Got a new phone - problem solved

Sadly, that would also be the end of the road. The Financial Ombudsman have dealt with cases before where cards would not add to Apple Pay, across several banks.

In all cases, the complaint hasn’t been upheld on the basis that Apple Pay is not considered core banking, and is a discretionary function.

Annoying for those impacted. The final answer from Lloyds really is final.

Hopefully they will solve it one day. It would be a dealbreaker for me, personally.

I couldn’t add any Lloyds cards to my iPhone 16 Pro last year.

Can add my Ultra card to my iPhone 17 PM but not to my Apple Watch.

For me it’s also a deal breaker and a reason I won’t be using Lloyds as my main current account. Do not want to be worried everyone I add a card whether it’ll work or not.

What’s to stop people from just using their Lloyds card on Curve? It’s what I do for one of my accounts that doesn’t support Google Pay.

Obviously Apple Pay should just work as standard, but Lloyds doesn’t seem to be in a rush to fix this, despite being the largest banking group in the UK…

No Section 75 would be a major reason not to use it via Curve.

Does this happen on Android with Google Wallet or is it purely an Apple thing? I’ve been trying not to mess around with the cards too much on my Android in case I get the same treatment

No, y’all need to move to the superior operating system

I use this workaround to have my Barclays card on my watch, since ditching my Apple Watch for a Garmin. Unfortunately Barclays don’t support Garmin Pay, nor do many UK banks, including Lloyds (to stay on topic).

I only have it on there for those rare occasions when I’m paying for something and have forgotten my phone/left it in the car.
