Investment Platforms

I’d like to be able to have ARM in the ISA, but can’t as it’s listed as an ADR rather than as an actual share. Works in the SIPP though.

You’re probably doing this already but would advise digging into the fee structure and seeing what works best for you. For larger portfolios a small difference in fees (0.4% Vs 0.2%) can means tens or hundreds of thousands of pounds over the long term.

I recently moved to InvestEngine and really like them because they’ve got a great app and very easy to use.
iWeb is a bit clunky.
BestInvest was the cheapest SIPP when I looked previously.
Vanguard are cheap if investing in their own funds.

But for large portfolios there is very little merit in considering a % fee broker at all - the difference between 0.2% and free is just as large as 0.4 to 0.2!

Agreed. I was thinking of total cost.

Also worth reading the details of the charges. On AJ Bell for instance, if you use funds then it’s 0.25% up to £250000, reducing after that. If you use shares (and that includes investment trusts), it’s 0.25% max £120/year i.e. it stays at £120/year when you have over £48000. The shares and funds charges are separate i.e. you could end up paying both, depending on what you’re investing in.

If you want to keep your shares with a more established provider long-term then I think the cheapest way is to use a free platform like InvestEngine or a low-% fee one like Vanguard then transfer into iWeb (at the end of the ISA year). I haven’t done it yet but opened up an iWeb account while it was free so I have the option.
