Introducing Monzo Premium

For MSE this seems like a surprisingly fair analysis. Good to see they’ve mentioned the extra tech features a few times which is a big part of the sell.

Such as?

Open banking isn’t the same elsewhere.

I wouldn’t bank on the insurer saying you can take it direct to Apple…

Minor detail, but you have the option to take it to an apple store

You’re right, aggregators do it much better

When previous versions of plus were launched there were dozens of comments saying how it was because Monzo hadn’t done the same as other accounts with travel and phone insurance

Monzo do that and still people say it’s a bad product

It’s not a product for me but I think it’s really good for those that do travel or need phone insurance. Well done to Monzo

@maxwhite

one other question im not sure if its been answered yet.

So the “Offers” section, when these eventually get refreshed will these be different to the normal plus tier?
Will they for example be worthy of a “premium” label with say an additional % discount to the plus tier offers or will this section be completely shared.

Also, when can we expect some changes to these offers? 3 months have passed and these havent changed as yet so feel more like sign up offers as opposed to an additonal service.

This is hard to deny. I still remember going to a talk by Tom when Mondo was in Alpha, and how he passionately talked about how Monzo was going to change the financial industry with its marketplace model, using financial data to offer mroe bespoke products.

This isn’t that - this is mostly a standard premium account service as offered by other banks.

Is this a stepping stone to achieving greater things? Or just a sign of a business growing up? I would like to understand if that whole revolutionary marketplace vision is dead, or just resting.

Maybe it was just a bit too early and therefore couldn’t be done. A hybrid bank/aggregator app in a few years when open banking has really matured could steal the market.

This makes me sad

 Sorry @cookywook, I thought it got cleared up already in the thread

  • Can I freeze virtual cards?
  • If yes, does it freeze just that card so I can continue using my physical card and other virtual cards?
  • If no, will freezing my physical card also freeze all my virtual cards?

No penalties for deleting them? I can just recreate as many as I want up to the limit?

What are the changes that were made compared to the March version you had ready?

I don’t think there has been any changes. They just delayed it until the second peak instead.

Yep, you can have 100 per year, and 5 at any one time.

The original post claimed it had been changed… Was just curious what had been made

Agree, I’m unsure wether it’s for me yet, and a small tweak would make it so - but it seems on the face of it the cover offered is good, and for a competitive price.

Of course it won’t suit everyones needs, but it never will and never can.

I was trying to rack my brains to compare the three flavours of Plus we’ve had so far - need to dig all the info out - but it seems this package offers more than what was available in the last travel oriented version.

Interestingly though, aside from Pandemic cover, the travel insurance is near identical.

In my opinion not a good try to sell useless metal card.
No breakdown.
2 phone insurance claims per year no join account support.
1.5% maybe for someone
Not for me, but some guys will be happy with this offer. Not the worst on the market.

I like my Nationwide FlexPlus card. Family Phone insurance, breakdown…

I think two is fairly good, if you are claiming more than twice you need to think about how you are using it or maybe you are just very unlucky

Agree that it needs Breakdown cover to get me to move from Nationwide’s FlexPlus
