I didn’t realise World Elite cards offer car hire benefits. Is it all major car hire companies that provide these benefits/discounts?

Yes, all my old statements going back years are still available in online banking under the premier card, and it shows they revised it down 300bps on conversion.

The hard searches HSBC do for account upgrades and such are ridiculous and over the top in my view compared to any other bank

The majors all do. It’s a two step process WE lets you register in their highest tier and that in turn gets the benefits. As I say, it can be worth serious cash.

Some hotel chains do similar but I gather that’s more limited.

There’s also better offers on the MasterCard Priceless site.

I much prefer these designs than the new ones we have now.

I wonder if the lion on the front is Stitt or Stephen!

I spotted an old lion debit card in the wild at Greggs this morning. Made me look at my HsBc triangle logo in sadness

That is one gorgeous card!

I know HSBC are quite notorious for running hard credit checks at every opportunity, but when I opened a USD currency account I really didn’t think they’d do one then. I’m not sure what the point is, when the account can’t be overdrawn…

If the account comes with a debit card, it can become overdrawn.

The USD currency account doesn’t come with a debit card.

It’s worth remembering that a “hard search” is simply a fact check to determine if you’re a ‘good bet’ as a customer, the undertaking of which is visible for other providers to see.

The point I would imagine is that it does not have to be. A soft search will show this as well, with a hard search should you decide to go along with the account.

There is simply no need for any company or bank to submit a hard credit check to assess eligibility for any account. It’s not necessary and I avoid any bank or company who do so.

It’s definitely not necessary when you have a long history with the bank an established credit record with them. Such a ridiculous process. I’m inclined to complain to HSBC but expect I’ll get absolutely nowhere

When you have to be an existing customer to open the USD account it seems a bit of a nonsense really

Did they tell you they’d credit check? And then you agreed to it?

To be fair (I don’t know what the HSBC answer is) but sometimes it’s not clear. Amex will hard search anyone applying but if you’re an existing customer it’s soft search but will just say “submit for credit check”.

Even if they say hard check, for an existing customer it’s just stupid and for a new customer they can soft check, tell you if eligible, then hard check to open. It’s not difficult and most banks seem to be able to manage. HSBC should be able to cope with this.

I don’t. I already get enough “did you know scammers want your money” emails from the HSBCs (and yes, I know they do).

HSBC UK have a separate HSBC Fraud and Cyber Awareness app

It could well be that they merge elements into their main app.

Seems they decided to target their scams app to be available to anyone not just HSBC customers.
