Though I see the NatWest one has no fees
Not quite the same thing, they have a monthly fee which is just lower than normal interest, whereas NatWest’s BNPL is 4 instalments at 0%. So similar but not interest free which I think most BNPL products are.
Just out of curiosity, what have you been using in the meantime?
I really like chase, I think what they offer as a bank is really good however there is something about the app that feels really old? For a new UK market bank I would have expected the app to be designed in a much more modern outlook, however it’s still good I think I’ve just been spoilt by monzos app
I love being curious about what accounts people use day to day ![]()
I’m very much the same, if only to reassure myself that opening 10 accounts in the last 6 months for switching offers & rewards was a good idea.
I’m calm for most of the year then all of a sudden I feel the need to open every account possible to avoid fomo
It is quite safe and conservative, nothing too radical in there. But I do like it more than a lot of other banking apps I have.
I have just opened a current account and credit card to spread my risk as currently I only bank with Monzo! Haven’t had a HSBC account before … This is going to be a back-up account/cc thankfully as looking at the app - it seems a bit older!
I mean none of the legacy banks will look like the FinTech ones, with the possible exception of TSB, but HSBC is not all that bad.
ok so I applied for a hsbc premier account. 17 days ago I sent them my payslips & bank statements and they have not gotten back to me…
Normal?
I tried to go in branch and they said they couldn’t help me lol
To an extent. Did you have an account previously? If you directly applied and provided all details as a new customer, typically it can take “up to two weeks” - since I had a previous savings account my application appeared in app 24hr after applying.
So it will either appear or you’ll get a nice letter offering advance, which has also happened to me in the past (I think because at that time we had just moved and sacked off them as the mortgage provider)
Yes, since the branch are really just there to support with ID in person, all they do otherwise is put the application in for you. If it’s in progress this is why.
Ah I am a new customer ![]()

This is not what they told me
They said they cannot deal with applications at all. Like, they can’t even view them or even take my ID. It is entirely online self serve now ![]()
I’ll wait another week and call them up. I just checked and it said they’re “very busy”. Although that might just be one of those things banks say…
They are not known for speed. Good luck as it’s a nice account
I am thinking of stepping up my existing (bog standard) HSBC account to Premier as I now meet the at least 50k held with HSBC UK criteria in savings. However, I do not earn 75k/annum (or anywhere near!).
How tight are they on the salary aspect if you fulfil the savings capital requirement?
I have my salary paid into my HSBC account and it has been open for about 9 months and in good standing.
I also have the standard credit card but am looking to switch this to the rewards or Premier one. I do not carry a balance and have cleared in full and ontime every month.
Ironically I have banked with First Direct (part of HSBC Group) 10y+ but moved away after the Mastercard debacle.
Its either or. Sounds like you meet nr 2
But only they can tell you. I applied just under the salary threshold by 2k and was accepted.
Ok thanks, that makes sense re either or criteria. Ideally I don’t want to have an entirely new account - just “Premierise” (if there is a term) the existing one that I have now as opposed to starting from scratch.
Re. the comment above about branches do you think if I go in they’ll be able to press the required buttons to update the account status and I can walk out being a Premier client?
All branches will do is fill in the form, you’re better just filling it in yourself and submitting over a cuppa
I applied in February this year for a Premier account and it was all done and accepted by the end of the application with no proof of income required. My retirement income is less than 75K and they didn’t ask how much I had to save or invest - just gave me the account and said that I must meet the requirements within 6 months (which I have done).
I had been a customer in the past but didn’t have anything with them when I applied.
Being with mozno for the past 3 years has made me blind to just now “legacy” everything else is in comparison. HSBC online banking is literally a nightmare to set up? Been on the phone to reset a password I never remember making, to be told I need a telephone banking PIN number which I now have to wait 7-10 days to get in the post (I managed to just make my own in the end)
Now I’m stuck with ab activation issue but no one seems to know what the actual issue is and now I’m just told to wait and hopefully it’ll fix it’s self ![]()
I’m not too fussed but I’m disappointed, I was going to use HSBC as my main bank because I really like their designs and offerings etc, however I think I’m too far gone into fintech and will probably switch to starling and just use my HSBC for the £200 switch
What does this mean? Best just to be patient and wait for the Telephone Banking code. Once the app is set up, it’s fine.
