HSBC Chat

I just downloaded the original app from the store and it’s overwritten the TestFlight version with the new look app. Surfer guys ahoy now

So it does.

I’d have thought they’d have ironed out some of the slight behaviour first.

You can raise the issue within the HSBC Community…

Hey, anybody know the sort code schema for HSBC online applications, will it pick the closest branch, or pick one at random, or an ‘online banking’ sort code.
I know in reality it does not matter in the slightest, but its enough to make my brain itch.

Mine come back as “HSBC UK INT MASS” and “HSBC UK ADVANCE” as the branch.

Mine was just picked for me and its sort code 40-16-63 based out of Birmingham

Your sortcode doesn’t matter any more, you can be serviced by any branch in the same manner.

My corporate bank account I used to have has a sort code for my local branch. Personal current accounts opened more recently don’t seem to be location based.

Thanks folks, yeah totally aware it makes no diffrence at all, I’ve worked for 2 out of the big 4 banks, but yeah, its the brain itch, not gonna say OCD. Id just rather it say my local.

I banked with HSBC previously with the local sort code but switched out.

My Lloyds was opened at my local at the time, just depends which is taking customers or if it just goes centrally.

How come you want local if you know it makes no difference?

Yeah, if you apply online it allocates you to the “HSBC UK INT MASS” one, which is either 40-12-63 or 40-12-62 (mine).

Would be nice if they gave it a slightly nicer name though, or something generic such as “HSBC UK”. The address attached to it was at one point attached to some HSBC office in SE1 but has been since changed to the generic B1 1HQ one in Birmingham.

Edited to add: Sure, functionally it doesn’t make any difference, but I guess it’s nice to have some locality. I wonder, if you open an account in the HSBC branch it gives a local sort code for said branch?

I think it irks me more that the branch name/ office name is sometimes on paperwork statements ect so when it shows a branch I have no relation to as what LBG had started doing for some time picking an almost random branch, yeah I dont like it, not rational I know. I dont mind as much as yeah if @Chris3 says it just said HSBC UK, or HSBC online banking or what ever.

I applied online and its 40-16-63

Yeah these look like decent generic sortcodes. 40-16-63 showing as HSBC UK Current Accounts, 40-11-84 as HSBC UK PREMIER

I have 40-12-62 for regular account and 40-11-91 for Advance.

I can’t remember my HSBC sort code as I’ve closed the account now, but I remember looking it up on the sort code checker and it just said Advance Account. I think the only way you’re going to get a local sort code is to go into a branch and apply there.

40-12-61 for me. Opened online. Curiously mine shows as HBUK. HSBC Premier.

I’ve not updated as yet, kind of interested to see what happens to be honest. I assume they’ll just time out the TestFlight and point to the App Store as that’s what I believe Barclays did with their pilot.

Will see what happens. I’ve no reason to not keep the new design now.

Mine was opened online a couple of years ago and I was given a nice generic one 40-10-00 which I quite like.

When I was with HSBC as a child (from the Midland Bank days) my sort code was 40-23-10, which is my local branch.

I opened my account in a branch and have the branch sort code. Nothing special.

Checked the Currency Accounts (40-11-99) and they come up as “ HSBC UK BANK PLC” for institution and branch. Global Money (40-11-97) come up as “ HBSC UK GLOBAL MONEY ACCOUNT” branch.

My UK Premier account opened with a referral from my Singapore Premier RM (so partially offline, partially online) has a sort code of 40-12-64
