Haggling successes

Ooooo good luck. :crossed_fingers:

I quite enjoy the thrill of the chase  I liken it to playing chess by thinking 3 moves ahead and cutting off any possible excuses or comebacks. As soon as they run out of things to say it’s just an apology and compensation/deal time :star_struck:

It’s luck of the draw with reps on what discounts you’ll get.

We are never using TUI again.

Paid £3k to go to Hurghada Egypt last year, my family was sick the whole two weeks which was a 3 year old, 1 year old and the wife who was pregnant at the time, as was a hell of a lot of other people too at the hotel.

Was told by Tui not to use the pool, drink the water (obvious anyway) eat the salad and even told not to eat any food with oil in it. When I asked the hotel guest relations manager for a list of food cooked using no oil, it was about 5 dishes.

Came back home and got straight on the phone for compensation after I saw the news that people visiting the region of Hurghada, where we stayed (including people staying in our hotel) were coming down with the same symptoms as us and even being hospitalised and put on drips and a child had kidney failure after his family holiday.

Even with ABTA getting involved, I got £100 compensation voucher only to be used on another TUI holiday. NEVER ever using Tui again. The reps were no good, couldn’t get hold of anyine from Tui, all they said was contact the local rep (on Twitter), and they took days to respond.

My travel insurance, although I paid quite a bit (for the rating) was no good either. They told me to go to the doctor, take any mediation he said and then if that didn’t work in 5 days call back. We were trapped. Flights to get home were £800-£1000. Absolute nightmare. We lived off of egg white and bread the two weeks

Yeah I’m wary as I have no other option, we don’t have a phone line at all, only a Virgin cable (we rent, this was not a decision I was part of!).

Probably give it a go next month as that’ll be the first year passed, see what I can manage.

We will see, I have a disabled son on Steroids, so if any of that happens we are going to Lanzarote but food poisoning can happen anywhere, we will be in A&E probs for the remainder of the holiday :joy:

Just after this email from them chances are we will never use them again and punt the email all over social media

I’ve found with Virgin Media they’ll try to palm you off with £5 off for the next 3 months or something similar but if you can stick it out and say you want to cancel they’ll pass you to a specialist customer retention team (you can tell as they’re always in Scotland or Ireland with a definite accent) who can easily give you about 50% off for the whole next year

Retention team have all the power :muscle:

When calling Virgin Media I believe there is an option for ‘I’m considering leaving’ - that’s the one you want

That’s my rock n roll weekend planned then!

I’m paying £85 per month for Sky. I feel like, after reading this thread, I’m being ripped off!

I’m surprised these companies will just drop their prices like that. I mean we all know they are awful but surely they should themselves at least be proud of their product (otherwise they’d not be selling it) and not give in to such extortion? If anything this just makes their product look even more cheap and the companies more desperate.

I am £99 a month every channel plus kids broadband and phone

More like: most don’t question or negotiate so they cover the large discounts plus some for other customers

These large companies are driven by share prices which means increase profit is the key goal. Despite what many companies say publicly, that is the key underlying driver. It’s the reason many millions of people still pay far too much for car insurance, as they just accept the renewal quote, because they ‘like’ the company.

The product is irrelevant to large companies, like Sky, who have many other profit making products to offer.

Retentions only exist because one other metric, particularly for a media company, that shareholders like to see is ‘how many viewers are there’ although that is also very very handy to tell advertisers from which Sky will make more money and be able to sell adverts at a higher rate the more ‘viewers’ it could have.

Is that normal then? Maybe splitting TV, Phone, Broadband with other providers would be cheaper.

Only re joined back in July and they messed up order I have SkyQ 2TB box with 3 multi room boxes.

Still have to pay for BT sport separate also.

I was with Plusnet for phone and broadband, Sky TV and BT Sport closer to paying £160 a month currently about £130, sooner sky can include by sport the better too

You’ll be able to make a massive saving come the end of your contract, they’ll definitely not want to lose you as a customer.

Jeeez £85+ is a crazy price to pay. I’d be on the phone straight away :open_mouth:

At that cost I’d be expecting at least half price for 6 months and free sky cinema or sports for 12 month. That seems to be the standard offer they make for full package people. Then as mentioned, set a reminder in your phone and call back in 6 month.

Broadband Virgin Media, if you tell them you’re going to go to Sky they’re usually very helpful. Upgraded my parents broadband for free a few years back after they had problems and we threatened to go to Sky
