I did think it was a little weird last year when my husband paid in £6000 cash via a post office counter and nobody batted an eyelid! And wondered at what value they might ask something.

Have always thought this would be a good idea.
But to quote from the article:

“But only four hubs have opened so far, while an average of 54 UK branches have shut each month since January 2015.”

The banks themselves don’t seem too interested.

In exchange for monthly subscriptions, iSpoof provided its users with services, which included the ability for its subscribers to use a caller ID ‘spoof’ to appear as if they were calling victims from a bank or other trusted organisation.

The total losses to victims of frauds enabled by iSpoof in the UK exceeds £43 million, with the total global losses estimated to be at least £100 million.

It’s subject to AML checks, so not really anything particularly new. I’ve opened many accounts without needing to supply photo ID. You’ll presumably only need it the photo ID I’d they can’t match your credit file.

Edit: nope, you definitely need photo ID! Someone tell the FCA!
