Formula 1

I enjoyed the schadenfreude. The rest might take a little getting used to, the cars are distractingly odd to me. Early signs for racing are good, at least.

Happy cake day!

Thank you, I hadn’t even noticed it was my cake day

What a great first race of the season!

A great F1 start. Great drives from all podiums, but gotta feel for Red Bull reliability though.

Totally agreed. The back and forth with Charles and Max after the first pit stop was great. And was a classic one where it looked like it was heading for a boring conclusion until the Gasly fire.
The last few laps were pretty unfortunate for red bull, but, oh well!

Poor old McLaren - hope they can sort their issues

A good race admittedly, but even after all these years I still miss those screaming V8’s and V10’s
To me, they just added to the atmosphere, although spinning at much lower speeds does seem to have improved engine reliability somewhat.

I remember as much as enjoyed those screaming cars, in the past the first race of the season very often saw quite a few not make it to the finish

Re-reading the first 10 or so posts in this thread - from almost 2 years ago - is really :eyes:

Wow, I was really harsh on Vettel, wasn’t I? :grimacing: Managed to call it about a mid-field team being the only option for him, and I have to retract the harsher judgements now, as he seems to be doing better now the pressure is off a little, and I was really impressed with how he held himself last year with his LGBTQ+ support.

After the first two posts I was scared to read on too much further in case I found many more examples of time showing up my past calls

It’s a rare example of a thread wth posts that did all age well.

It was good to see Ferrari back at front and Mercedes’ in lower order. Such a shame for red bull.

Putting the car in the wall at the wrong time seems to be Latifi’s specialist skill.

Nearly an hour now watching a car park. Perhaps unnecessarily. I do hope this doesn’t end up being another Spa :sob:

Running out of racing time here!

Looks like maybe could be soon…

I understand wanting to be safe, but the current approach for 0% risk is going too far and isn’t the answer.

Also, as I’m writing this:

ETA: ugh, no standing start

Bit disappointing with no standing start, surely best drivers in world can drive in rain, we all want to see them challenged with weather conditions. Very exciting so far but

Perez, so nearly out of the sport at one point, appears to have turned into very much the anti-Ricciardo.

Massive shame he just DNF’d in Canada, would have liked him and Verstappen to go at it in the championship given Ferrari have fumbled so badly this year so far:

It really feels like a blast from the past, seeing so many cars DNF due to mechanical failures.
