GET /pots?current_account_id=… currently returns my regular pots, savings pots, and challenge pots (e.g. the 1p challenge) with their balances, but my Investment pot does not appear in the response at all. So there’s no way to read its value through the API, even though it shows in the Monzo app.
What I’d like
Include Investment pots in the GET /pots response, with at least their id, name, current value (balance in minor units), and currency — the same shape as other pots.
Ideally, add a type field on each pot (e.g. flexible_savings, instant_access_savings, investments, default) so clients can tell an investment pot apart from a cash pot, since their value moves differently.
Why it matters
I’ve built a small personal budgeting app for my own account. It reads pot balances daily and charts them over time so I can watch my savings and investments grow. Savings and challenge pots work great, but because the Investment pot is invisible to the API, my total is understated and the investment growth I actually care about most is the one thing I can’t track.
It would be reading the same current value that’s already shown in the app — no new sensitive data — so it feels like a natural gap to close.
Read access is enough; I don’t need to move money in or out via the API.
Makes sense, and I can see why that gap is annoying if you’re using the API for a “total picture” dashboard. Investments are a bit different from normal pots because the value is market-linked rather than a stored cash balance, so I’d expect Monzo may need to be careful about how they expose it, especially around naming, valuation timing, and whether it should behave like a pot in the existing schema. But read-only access to the current displayed value feels like a reasonable ask. A type field would be useful too, not just for investments, since clients currently have to infer too much from pot names and behaviour, which is always a bit cursed.
