Just to confuse things we also have " ethnicity "
We do, and it’s my experience that the gathering of ethnicity through surveys et al is frequently confused with poor understanding of “why” and even poorer use of ethnicity classifications.
Agreed. Possibly because any classification without at least several hundred options is going to be complete BS.
Ethnicity is supposed to mean “the fact or state of belonging to a social group that has a common national or cultural tradition.” . Yet commonly you see “Asian” or “Black African” as options - hardly single common national/cultural traditions!
I think ethnicity surveys just want to know what your skin colour is, but are being coy about asking for it for some reason. It’s the survey equivelent of “but where are you really from?”, in my view.
Thanks. That made me feel special
You can renounce your UK citizenship and reclaim it after to deal with issues like this.
You have a right (once only) to be registered as a British citizen if you previously renounced British citizenship in order to keep or acquire another citizenship.
So do I. I doubt I’d qualify for one, though.
I’ve often thought that if Wales and/or Scotland gained independence, they’d be able to base their whole economy on the sale of citizenship and passports to disaffected individuals in England.
