Quick question guys, does anyone know whether if you link Curve to a reward credit card whether you still receive reward points for purchases? i.e Amex / Virgin etc

Yes you still get basic points but NOT if they are linked to a spend location (unless this has changed) i.e. if you get 2 points for each £5 spent on the card you get those but not double points if you spend at Tesco, this was the case despite them saying the underlying payment info was passed on. This might have changed as its been a while since i used Curve on a rewards based card. Also no AMEX, Amex dropped them, again!!

So I just decided to try curve out

I have added my Monzo card and my credit card and the features of just having one card for all is really cool but I have a few worries

Can I withdraw cash with the curve card connected to my credit card without fees

Do I have payment protection

Is curve secure (sounds stupid)

You can withdraw cash on a CC, but it depends on the company if they actually process it as one, but they definitely get told it is one.

You have the MasterCard protection.

Can’t comment on security, doubt anyone can to be fair, but they have a big bounty program which counts for something.

You don’t have S75 protection on credit card purchases.

There will probably be fees (and interest). It used to work, but Curve now report to the credit card company that it is a cash withdrawal.

You have payment protection provided by Curve. It’s different to S75 protection, but in most common circumstances you should be covered.

I’m currently only using curve to buy things like food and small purchases in my favourite places for cashback. I don’t plan on making any big purchases any time soon

I used curve mainly to pay the hrmc bill. Now that it’s not an option it slightly removes the appeal.

The cashback has been very good though. Wish Monzo go their act together on that front.

My cashback has ended. Removed all my cards and now the curve card is back in the draw :joy:

I really don’t enjoy curve. I might consider closing the account when Monzo launch their new paid service but only if Monzo includes cashback.

Their “win back your money” competition ends tomorrow so I’ll be doing the same

It’s a shame
The other thing I noticed was their insurance for gadgets with axa is only £800 and this is bad considering most phones are valued at £1,000 now-a-days so their premium offering isn’t appealing unless your someone who’s desperate for a metal card :neutral_face:

Yeah I’m very close to dumping it in the draw tbh. Or at least running the sub down to free as it’s kinda useful now to put cards thst are not usable. On Google pay on it.

The lounge access was a nice option for me at £15 a head originally. I travel 4 times a year with two others, by partner and the boy. So at £15 a head it worked out at £45 a trip, each way four times a year was £280. Not bad value when you consider you can easily spend £60 for a meal for 3 people in an airport. So I was getting my moneys worth with that.

Now its £20 a head it’s £480 a year :expressionless: might as well pay for a proper meal now.

It’s still useful to double up cashpoint limits when you need them. Beyond that, once Amex blocked it, it became of limited use to me. I have 3 separate work cards linked to Curve and I mainly use Curve as a back up in case I forget to bring the right card with me (going back in time is an awesome feature). But it’s not really evolved in a long time and Revolut has massively overtaken it.

Sure but your not comparing like for like. Curve is not a bank account and probably never will be.

True, it’s not a bank account, but neither was Monzo or Revolut when it started. I joined Curve first, but it’s not really evolved as a product beyond adding the metal card account, which is ok, but nothing special. It seems a bit flat in terms of Innovation that’s all.

You’re right but Monzo was clear in the fact that it was going to be a bank account. The pre paid card was a way to get the public to try it really quickly without much fuss and to improve it’s offering going forward.

As for Revolut it goes where the money is and it makes sense to become a bank account as it’s a lot more sticky for the customer and reduces customer churn.

Except it’s clear as mud as they haven’t distinguished between local gov, national gov, or outsourced gov.
