I downloaded the app, and you then go into another queuing system, awaiting a Starling Pass, in order to open an account… to which when asked why they have seeming put all those who signed up back more than a year ago in another queue, they have said that people should recieve the pass by email soon… i have a feeling they dont have a clue at the moment
Probably since august time. Set up was easy. Send a quick video and a photo of your driving licence and all done. You can even set up your card pin when you order the card.
This is all you get when chatting to them via their site :
Agent C:
If you are already on our Priority List, you will receive an email from us let you know how close you are. After that time (just a week or two), you’ll receive an email invite from us as soon as we can get you on board.
You
So their was no point at all to signing up originally then at all
Agent C:
No, you will receive the code quicker then if you had just the downloaded the app.
We are working through the priority list first and inviting people from there
Just keep an eye on your emails, you will be receiving an update from us
Would love to know how people who signed up later, get access before people who signed up 6mths ago… ahh well…
He’s just tweeted a link to a new blog post from Starling too -
To begin with, we are going to be onboarding people in weekly groups, sending out single-use Starling Pass codes that will grant instant access to open a Starling Bank account from the app.
Edit - it looks like Starling sent out a batch of emails (at around 2:15 pm) letting users know how many weeks they’ll have to wait, before they receive their passcode…except mine doesn’t tell me!
Depends how badly you want a challenger’s current account & standard account features I guess.
I want to check out the competition obviously. But I won’t be using their app day to day because apart from anything else, I don’t want to create a hole in my data / targets / reporting.
Also, I quite like being able to see my spend broken down by category
I got an email telling me I will get a pass next week. I’m not sure if I’ll bother using it though, I lost most of the enthusiasm I had to try Starling with all the ‘wait a bit longer’ emails.
I’m not really fussed just it’s being mentioned a lot on here so was just wondering, also I don’t really fancy having any searches on my credit file just to view something I won’t really use.
i dont think ill bother with starling, monzo covers most of my financial needs. all thats left is direct debit/ standing orders and faster payments!! and thats all coming soon. plus i dont want to many accounts. im trying to make my banking simpler not more akward.
I agree with Alex

which for me was ready to go asap but of course excited for Monzo to release the full version too!!
I am enjoying using Starling at the moment everything seems to be working fine for me with no bugs direct debits work (and you get notified when they go which is a good) as well as faster payments.
Only thing i am really missing is the Emojis and tagging and adding receipts but have been advised this is being added soon (but no time frame mentioned) also missing features like map location and merchant logos are hit and miss but again there are in beta so developing all these features.
But apart from those little niggles i am enjoying using a challenger bank account
