Black card would look quite fresh too tbh.
Starling finally published a more open blog post today, from their CEO
thereâs a few things worth highlighting:
It looks like they slipped this announcement in -
And thatâs why weâre so excited to let you know that weâre a fully licensed bank â with no restrictions â authorised and regulated by the FCA and PRA.
Features the app / account does have:
Faster Payments, direct debits, contactless debit cards, overdrafts for qualifying customers, and protection for all eligible deposits up to ÂŁ85,000 from the FSCS.
Notifications are opt in
We also offer a real time view of your balance â thereâs no more need to worry about whether Fridayâs bar tab has gone through before you do your weekly shop on Sunday; it all shows up on your account as you spend and you can sign up for notifications too, if you want them.
You can switch your card off if youâre not quite sure if youâve left it in yesterdayâs coat, then turn it back on once youâve found it. If you qualify for an overdraft, you can increase or decrease how deep it goes. Passcodes, passwords and PINs are all accessible from the app. And if you get stuck, 24/7 customer care is available through the app too (with actual humans answering your questions at the other end).
Weâre building a Marketplace of products and services to help beyond your everyday spending by partnering with smart apps like Transferwise and Moneybox.
Features the app / account doesnât have yet:
Insights into spending habits, categorisation options, and savings goals.
i always though starling was a head of the curve, it seems they are behind. the fact that they silent announced full banking license is indicative of how they have been behaving of late.
I wonder if I will ever get my Starling card now its a fully licensed bank like Monzo ? - keep getting the emails that it is coming soon but nothing else - have they lost my application - anybody from Starling on here that could help with a golden ticket ?
you might just win the lottery before you get a starling card
I asked them again this mornining on twitter, about when we should get to try Starling, but just got a cut and paste reply back from themâŚ
âŚ
Maybe they have come on here and taken down a list of names of who NOT to give a card to (all of us), because their beta seems to be taking place completely without any critics / Monzo fanboys
I also asked. âVery soonâ was the answer.
Interestingly âsoonâ used to mean âimmediatelyâ. But the definition has slipped somewhat over the years.
donât know if this blog from Ben Smith has been posted - some are obviously getting under the radar to claim their Starling card

This is what is annoying me the most with Starling as they donât seem interested in you or me, but just in giving out cards to Journalists and bloggers (as Iâve said before)âŚ
I hope Starling figure out sooner rather than later to get the cards into the hands of people who will give real world feedback
Worth noting that Starling doesnât allow top ups below ÂŁ50, according to that article.
lol who knows what they do and donât allow apart from a very very small group of people
Interesting stuff â wonder whether there is anything similar in the pipeline for Monzo?
This could of interest to those looking for a joint accountâŚ
Tandem update:
Links to a surveymonkey form⌠have submitted all my answers and shall see what happens
Same here I got the email today too
I have to say Iâm a little surprised.
Funnily enough I got that too - but I already have the app.
Tandem are loving their registration forms arenât they?
Some interesting features there that I hope will make it into Monzo (ring-fencing of bills for one).
