no not really - they donât tend to share things, they are hoping to have all their system in place, fully working and what the customers want before launching - I have been on their waiting list for probably 5 months now with no information other than a 3 ( i think) emails saying were launching soon just to keep you informed
I might be a bit biased and itâs not like Monzo plans to launch current accounts with a bang either, so I shouldnât be really going at Starling, butâŚ
I had a quick chat with some chap through chat popup on the website. Very friendly and good chat overall, but still a bit, hmm:
Well we havenât launched yet, but if you sign up to the waiting list on the website, you can be among the first to apply when we do launch!
We are looking to launch publicly this quarter, so it is very soon
Starling Bank, the latest digitally-native mobile challenger bank to hit the UK, has been granted a banking license by the Prudential Regulatory Authority (PRA) and the Financial Conduct Authority and is inviting prospective customers to sign up ahead of a formal launch in January 2017.
sorry I was wrong - Ive had about 6 emails from Starling saying weâre coming soon and how they are the first to be changing the face of banking, the first to be doing this and the first to be doing that , signed up in July I gave up and deleted my application around christmas in frustration of getting nothing but âfollow us on twitterâ and âthe account is coming soonâ⌠still âŚ
Same here, really not impressed with how Starling have communicated to potential customers, not had an email since December, and that was a silly christmas twitter thingâŚ
apparently Starling are launching their iOS app first âsometime this quarterâ and then the Android âlaterâ the $70m mentioned in Alexâs link above gives some bang for its buck - presumably they will have their BoE cash reserves allocated in that funding + some rollout money - just goes some way to indicate what Monzo have achieved with their resources of roughly $17m (ÂŁ13m) before the last round of funding and with what must now be going on for 130,000 registered users - 60% active - 80,000 semi converted monzonaut customers
Tandem/Starling, to some extent Atom. All the same and I canât tell the difference. Monzo on the other hand is much more classier and professional looking, plus it works!
Iâm lost with other banks âWeâll be opening current accounts soonâŚâ then get useless info emailed occasionally which holds no actual tangible info?? I get the idea that theyâve no idea, and with little or no interest in them having my money. Monzo has a great community and proper info with realistic timescales.
These other banks are always on the internet with âXXXX raises another ÂŁ100 millionâ etc for more funding, what the hell are they doing with all the money. Again you get the feeling that with all this money they should be far more clued up and should have a current account up and running already, but instead their apps are either extremely poor (Atom) or non existent. These are big sums, and I get the impression that itâs funding champagne at the shareholders meetings and not putting towards a proper App and bank thatâs going to make me want to move from the greedy legacy banks.
Monzo has far more substance than the rest of the âchallengerâ banks put together!!
One of the banks you mentioned (wonât name them) have problems with recruiting. I declined one of their data jobs, my friend as well (a lead level) and they also have problem with developers. For that reason Iâm not surprised that xxxx pounds/dollars are not being translated into effective product releases or improvementsâŚ
Obviously Iâm biased (although I did feel this way before I joined the team) - but it seems to me that some companies are underestimating the value of traction and goodwill. Iâm sure some of these companies are planning to use these huge investments to place adverts everywhere the eye can see but relying on that is an uphill struggle when thereâs no existing product out that people can use and can recommend.
I 100% agree, Monzo built my trust in the company by giving me something that works (the Alpha/Beta prepaid program) and then communicating with customers, talking about the philosophy of the bank and discussing how that might be achieved as things get built out.
I think Monzo makes so much sense because instead of trying to do everything at once it does exactly what it says it will do, really well. Itâs also why I love WhatsApp. To boot, getting real-time notifications of spending is delightful and an automatic overview of spending by category is super valuable. Canât wait to see whatâs to come
Maybe Atomâs ears were burning, I had an email today saying their new app was âleaner, lighter and fasterâ!!!
What absolute dross, reinstalled the app (stupidly) believing that theyâd fixed their shocking app. Oh no, itâs still truly dreadful. Iâve got my code and have spent 5 minutes blinking as instructed to activate the face id. After so many failed attempts why doesnât it give you the option to use voice id which I also registered?? If I was an investor in Atom Iâd be furious, money down the drain and I canât log on. Even if I wanted to invest in a new account I couldnât.
Why advertise your new app when itâs still just as bad as the last, it just annoys people further, me included. What complete jokers.
On the flip side, my Monzo app works fine from day one and has new upgraded added regularly. No issues. Well done Monzo, your showing them how it should be done!!
