Definitely not, not in the US. Stripe and sign all the way.
I believe the machine still shows the options - debit or credit - even outside Brazil.
These dual-function cards appear to be the standard in Brazil and Scandinavian countries, while not common in other European countries and North America.
A Finnish company revealed plans to launch its E2 Card in the UK, Germany and France:
.
It depends on whether the POS system supports these types of cards. In my experience using dual-function cards outside of Brazil, the terminal either acted as expected asking to choose between CREDIT or DEBIT, or it automatically processed the transaction as CREDIT without asking.
Clearly inspired by the Mexico 68 Olympics branding. I like how they localised the card design sometimes.
Big fan of these, wish they did these in the UK!
A long while ago I had a credit card in Australia that could you could also use as a debit card. It wasn’t advertised as such, but if you knew to ask, you could have the savings/cheque option linked to an account with the same bank.
In practicality, I only recall using the debit function to withdraw cash from ATMs, and would use credit for everything else. But it was handy to only need to carry one card.
I don’t know if it’d work as well now that contactless dominates payments. Also it feels less necessary since there’s mobile wallets and you can load multiple cards on there.
I gather that you can still do this as they still offer the cheque/savings/credit options on the machines so presumably you can still link accounts like this too.
I agree wholly on this point - it seems the creativity is about as exciting as slapping the element of the bank’s logo in the middle of the card and be done with it.
Re the credit/debit card in one aspect I am convinced the US has had this for years, as you get asked whether you want to use your credit, debit or savings when you pay using your card/use an ATM.
The Standard Chartered ones look quite smart, looks like they have a nice matte finish to them.
At least we have a bank called Biscuit though eh?
Isn’t yonder the same it’s a credit card that you can top up above credit limits
No. The credit/debit options connect to two different accounts. You can overpay a number of (but not all) credit cards. Egg used to operate like that: essentially a savings account linked to a credit card.
That looks great.
Really love the design of that card. Curious to see how it looks in person and whether it still feels as premium.
If it’s anything like the other Lloyds cards definitely not.
My HSBC cards went around the world and more or less looked the same as new.
My platinum card is already marked, they bend easily and you can see the sticker decals on the World Elite also.
I really hope they don’t put the details on the back in 9000pt font like the others but I suspect they will.
Out with the old (Barclays), in with the new (Lloyds). I do really like the Barclays redesign, but no monthly fee for 12 months I’ll take.
Just noticed how similar ‘Business’ is on both cards. Waiting on my Zempler Bank Business card too. No real need for it, but the EUR and USD additional cards look interesting.
