Collected Thoughts on Card Design (Part 2)

And the second rule is NOT TO MENTION CARD ADDICTION

Had a weird dream the other night featuring card designs mixing Nationwides new ones and Monzo cards, does this count?

People dream about cards, wow. Definitely counts.

OK, haven’t bought a bookcase yet, but there is a growing section on my existing bookcase getting taken up :rofl:

Just signed up with My Guava after seeing an ad on the tube. One of the neat things is you can change the design that shows in Apple Pay. Also they seem to be letting you order a physical card for free

Great collection of high quality images of card designs - mostly American cards with a few from abroad. Maybe we could do something similar but for UK cards?

From one of his posts on Reddit:

  1. Add the cards you want into your Apple Pay wallet on your Mac.

  2. Run the following script in Terminal:

mkdir ~/Desktop/cards
files=(~/Library/Passes/Cards/*.pkpass/cardBackgroundCombined@2x.png)
i=0
for f in ā€œ${files[@]}ā€; do
i=$(( i + 1 ))
cp $f ~/Desktop/cards/$i.png
done

The high quality images will be saved in a folder in the desktop called ā€œCardsā€

Recently figured you could do the same with Google Wallet (Pay) as well.

  1. Go to wallet.google.com on desktop
  2. Add payment method
  3. Click on the specific card to view Payment method details
  4. Right-click on the card image and open in new tab

The downside is that this is quite a manual process, also it might take a few hours after adding a card for the image to load.

Been thinking of making a repository of sorts for this (like the one above), anyone else in :thinking:?

This might be a silly question (sorry I’m new here…) but do you actually have accounts with all of those banks…? If so, why? Just for the cards?

I do have a lot of accounts yeah. But not all the cards and accounts in my card collection are active. I would say that a lot of the useless ones are closed. I just wanted the card.

I’m curious what opening+closing so many accounts does for your credit score (though that may just be the American in me, I know credit scores don’t mean as much here.)

If you don’t take an overdraft so there’s no credit, then it’s probably just a soft-check. So close to nothing. If you’re taking an overdraft/credit card each time, a slight impact, but overall not a huge deal.

Yeah exactly!

The cards that I actually use have got Overdrafts and Credit but most cards in my collection are just blank accounts really

Yeah same.

The cards I have with the Lion Design is

  • HSBC Hong Kong
  • HSBC Australia
  • HSBC Hong Kong ATM Card

Is there a reason you went with the Barclaycard Forward? Seems odd you’d be eligible for Barclays Premier banking but only their credit builder card?

I have Barclays Premier as I meet the Savings Requirement for having the card. I have had Barclaycard Forward for sometime now. I don’t actually use it for anything other then my TIDAL subscription. I use other credit cards for points and cashback offers. Both myself and my BF have got AMEX cards I just left them at his house. (We go between houses alot, different cities!!!) At the moment most of my spending is being done on Nationwide FlexDirect for the Cashback and 0% Overdraft

You might have the option in app to switch from the Forward card to the Rewards card. It’s a better card and another one for your collection :wink:

It’s something I am considering. I am not going to upgrade it right now as I have just got the John Lewis Credit Card and so not going to apply for another one at the moment.

But soon i will yeah as I like the look of the Barclaycard Reward

I think if the option is available in the app it doesn’t count as a new card. They just transfer you from one product to another.

Oh okie maybe then.

I heard that they do another credit check on you.

Don’t think so for switching product, never did for me at least.
